Records and MVPs

3/31/2016

by Deerjason
One of THL's top Hearthstone minds, Deerjason, runs down the final league standings as ranked by record. He also gives his pick for each team's MVP.

The Hairy Generals: 6 - 0 - 1 (Tied Those Filthy Roleplayers)
MVP: Markshire is currently one of two undefeated players in THL. One thing to note is that this top player is in the three seed, which may explain why he's undefeated.

Entropy: 5 - 2 - 0 (Losses from Noob Central & Team Rank 5)
MVP: In Week 2's Tavern Talk Jaxox stated how he doesn't play like a fifth seed. He was right, playing like a sixth by losing two straight weeks. The curse wore off in week 3 as those were the only two losses with the five seed falling under his drunken reign. With the playoffs starting and a Tavern Talk tonight, Jaxox hopes he won't jinx it again.

Soupreme:  5 - 2 - 0 (Loss from Pure Strategy, Loss from The Hairy Generals)
MVP: Cheesee10, along with Markshire, are the sole undefeated players in THL. In week 3, Cheesee replaced Deerjason as Soupreme's one seed. That didn't stop him from continuing his winning ways. Cheesee10 is currently the front runner in the race for THL MVP.

Team Rank 5: 5 - 2 - 0 (Losses from The Dream Team & The Super Heroes)
MVP: In the preseason, many people identified JesusC as the weak spot on Team Rank 5. He proved us all wrong. With his sole loss being against Iamplanb, he's in the thick of THL's MVP race.

The Gosu Casuals: 4 - 2 - 1 (Tied Top Deck Kings, Losses from Soupreme & The Hairy Generals)
MVP: Slimsch has managed to prove beyond ends why he was the season 1 league MVP. Rebounding from a slight hiccup in week 1, Slimsch rose to new heights, taking on the tall order of defeating towering tier one opponents week after week.

Those Filthy Roleplayers: 4 - 2 - 1 (Tied The Hairy Generals, Loss from Soupreme, Loss from The Gosu Casuals)
MVP: Alexstrasza had a rough start, with back-to-back losses in week 1 and 2. However, he didn't let that drag on his determination. He hasn't dropped a match since his first two, showing how anyone can overcome the newcomer virus.

Noob Central: 3 - 3 - 1 (Tied Archon Storm, Won against Entropy, Boom Squad, & The Super Heroes)
MVP: Kuthroat has only one loss this season, proving why he's in the thick of the league MVP race. His success places Noob Central in a highly contested second playoff spot in the Orange Division.

Archon Storm: 3 - 3 - 1 (Tied Noob Central, Losses from Team Rank 5 & Boom Squad)
MVP: The sole new member of Archon Storm has clearly made a name for himself. With only one played loss under his belt, Gideoneko has shown that he's one of the best, if not the best, four seeds in the league. He did, however, forget to submit his classes for the rivalry match-up, which will probably take him out of the league MVP discussion.

Boom Squad: 3 - 4 - 0 (Losses from Entropy, Continuum, Noob Central, & Team Rank 5)
MVP: The 3-3 record from DannyWu may not look all that extraordinary, but the Boom Squad had a tough schedule this season. Even with only DannyWu delivering a non-losing record, Boom Squad still managed to shake fear into their opponents and entered week 7 still in the playoff hunt.

The Super Heroes: 3 - 4 - 0 (Won against Continuum, The Dream Team, & Team Rank 5)
MVP: MonkeyWarlord has had an exceptional season so far, ending with only two losses. In week 2, he replaced IamplanB, moving up to a four seed. That didn't stop him from winning against higher PR opponents week after week.

Continuum: 3 - 4 - 0 (Losses from The Super Heroes, Team Rank 5, Archon Storm, & Entropy)
MVP: Adidas has been stomping everyone this season, even after moving up to the one seed. Adidas is also the only person that managed to beat Kuthroat, showing that he can beat anyone in this league.

Pure Strategy: 3 - 4 - 0 (Won against Top Deck Kings, Soupreme, & Xnergy)
MVP: If ApplSaucFactory's success in any way correlates to his pulped fruit output, he'd be a happy sauce tycoon. Only two losses ... now that's a feat no one could've imagined from this rising star.

The Dream Team: 2 - 5 - 0 (Won against Team Rank 5 & Noob Central)
MVP: This fishy delight has everyone wanting more ... of defeat, that is. SmokedSalmon has been wrecking everyone he faces, shown by a  5-2 record. Deadly but delicious.

Xnergy: 2 - 5 - 0 (Won against Team Golden Wisp & Top Deck Kings)
MVP: Xnergy's lackluster season has shown many holes in their lineup except in their fifth seed. With a 3-3 record, DiAmonD has shown improvement and his full potential is ever growing. It will be interesting to see how he does next season.

Team Golden Wisp: 2 - 5 - 0 (Won against Pure Strategy & Top Deck Kings)
MVP: Possibly the most improved player in THL, Chef Sasha has shown that he has skills not only in cooking, but also in Hearthstone. His 5-2 record shows a shining star in an underperforming Team Golden Wisp. Keep on brewing those crazy   decks!

Top Deck Kings: 0 - 6 - 1 (Tied The Gosu Casuals)
MVP: With a 4-3 record, JuiceJones represents a possible shining star in future seasons for what most people agree is the most underperforming team in the league.

Notes:
  • Everyone in THL has a bias for or against all teams in THL. This list helps remove this bias in a quest to more accurately place teams based on their win/loss/tie record and their skill level.
  • Tiebreakers are decided based on head-to-head, teams faced, and total points collected thus far.
  • Several teams on this list's perceived win/loss/tie ratio is completely different than their actual ratio.
  • Under this system, the most balanced division is the Orange Division and the least balanced is the Blue Division.

THL Power Rankings: The Final Countdown

As the regular season comes to a close so does the power rankings.

It's been a great season two for Team Hearth League filled with many upsets and incredible series. Many teams have fluctuated on the rankings, while others have been more stable, but we've seen changes throughout with every team. As we close the door on a successful regular season and look to the playoffs, let's first see where all of the teams have landed for the last time.

1. Hairy Generals (last week 1) – 1st Blue – 122 pts

As fate would have it, in the last week of the regular season the top two ranked teams battled it out for the top spot in THL. The result was an exciting series decided by one point in favor of the Hairy Generals. Key in this victory was PokeHer scoring a big win over DeerJason, which neutralized Soupreme's strength at the top of their roster. With a nearly unblemished record and an incredibly strong roster the Generals both earned and deserve the top spot.

2. Team Rank Five (last week 3) – 1st Orange – 123 pts

Picture
After a close loss last week Team Rank Five bounced back with a convincing win over Boom Squad, taking four of the five matches. In terms of a balanced roster there may be no teams that rival that of Team Rank Five's and as a result they finished with the most overall points of any team and a second place finish in the power rankings.

3. Soupreme (last week 2) – 2nd Blue – 115 pts

Picture
Sliding down a spot this week is the team of Soupreme after a narrow loss to the Hairy Generals. Cheesee10 took down AndyRogers to finish as the only 7-0 player this season, the reason for much of Soupreme's success along with his teammate and captain DeerJason. Though DeerJason did lose this week, showing that if you can get a win against one of Soup's top two seeds you have a good chance of beating them.

THL Power Rankings: Week 6

Picture
For those of us in the northern hemisphere we recently welcomed in spring and just as that season ushers in new things, this past week in Team Hearth League also brought about a lot of change. Not only do we have a new team at the top of the rankings, but throughout there was a lot of change with only three teams seeing no movement from the previous week. Let's take a look and see which teams are blooming and which teams are starting to wilt away.

1.  The Hairy Generals (last week 2) – 1st Blue – 106 pts

Picture
Before week six it could have been argued that the Generals should be the highest ranked team, but with Team Rank Five losing the argument has been settled and the Hairy Generals are the new No. 1.  That doesn't mean things came easy this past week for the new top dog, taking a five point victory over a scrappy Top Deck Kings team.  As mentioned before, the fourth seed continues to be their one weakness as Detrucci and GernBlaston rotate in and out of the lineup. PokeHer's surprising loss this week means there will also be a change with the top two seeds going into the last week of the regular season, and if Markshire continues his success we may see even more seed shuffling moving forward.

2. Soupreme (last week 3) – 2nd Blue – 103 pts

Picture
Last week the team of Soupreme survived with a two point victory over the Top Deck Kings and this week found Soupreme once again winning by a slim margin, this time it was a one point victory over Team Golden Wisp. The 1K duo, Cheesee10 and DeerJason, keep winning and remain the best 1-2 pairing in the league but as they were the only members to win this week the concerns over the rest of the roster remain.

3. Team Rank Five (last week 1) – 1st Orange – 103 pts

Picture
Week six started off well for the boys at Team Rank Five with Cassity gaining a win from disqualification but things quickly went south from there. TR5 would go on to lose three of their four matches (Imbolc being the lone victor) and as a result the Super Heroes came away with a one point victory. What does this loss mean for the team that occupied the top of the rankings for so long? TR5 is just three points shy of being undefeated and is still one of the scariest teams in the league so I wouldn't overreact but I think the loss does show that they are indeed mortal.

RULE UPDATE - effective 3/16/2016

3/17/2016

Because of the recent patch that enables additional deck slots, we are updating our process for taking screen shots to verify a single playable deck per class. With this update we are also changing our process for communicating bans. We will no longer queue a game with the class we are banning. Instead, we will create an unplayable deck named "BAN" that will communicate the ban through the screen shot process.
Picture

Picture
Here is the complete new rule that can be found in the official Rules document:
Pre-match Process:
Prior to the beginning of each match, players must complete the following process that will both communicate the ban of each player and verify that only one playable deck exists for each selected class.

  1. Before entering the challenge screen, players should communicate with their opponent to confirm that their opponent’s decks are correctly prepared. Correctly prepared decks include:
    1. Only one playable deck for each selected class for the match
      1. Decks that are not complete (contain less than 30 cards and have red “X” over them) are not considered playable.
      2. Decks for classes besides the classes selected by the player for that week are not considered payable
    2. A “Ban” deck
      1. The “Ban” deck may not be a playable deck
      2. The “Ban” deck must be named “BAN”
  2. Players enter the challenge screen
  3. The opponent will send an in-game chat message. A screenshot is taken that shows the available decks and must include this chat bubble from the opponent.
    1. If the player has more than 9 decks (decks on both pages), this process must be repeated for the second page, including the chat bubble.
  4. The screenshot(s) are emailed to the opponent before beginning play.
  5. Both players must confirm receipt of the screenshot and verification of eligible decks and the ban before beginning play.

If a player bans incorrectly, the opposing player may select their own class to be banned. An incorrect ban includes (but is not limited to): not labeling the “Ban” deck with the title “BAN”, or having a “Ban” deck prepared for a class not selected by the opponent.

If a player has a “Ban” deck that is playable (is a complete deck with 30 cards and of a class that the player is bringing), it will be considered a violation of the 1 deck rule and that class will be prevented from scoring a win.

THL Power Rankings: Week 5

The first week of division games have started and what an exciting week it was.

No longer playing teams outside your division, now each team will have to prove itself against those within their division. The stakes for every match skyrocket and those coveted playoff spots will be fiercely fought over. While the top three teams have continued to hold on to their ranks there has been a lot of change below them.

1. Team Rank Five (last week 1) – 1st Orange – 91 pts

In a rematch of last season's championship, Team Rank Five went up against Noob Central, albeit a very different Noob Central team. This series was closer than many expected, including I assume TR5, but they were still able to snare the win and gain 19 points. JesusC came up big once again and is one of the few remaining undefeated players on the season. With both the most points and highest overall PR the monster of the orange division will be tough to take down.

2. The Hairy Generals (last week 2) – 2nd Blue – 88 pts

The team with the best record in THL added to their win total this week after taking down Team Golden Wisp. PokeHer had a nice win over AlecGWPodcast and will man the one seed for as long as he continues winning, allowing Andyrogers and Markshire to be the two and three seeds respectively, which just seems unfair. If there is one weakness for the Generals it is the fourth seed, the only seed to drop a match over the last three weeks as GernBlanston and Detrucci take turns switching spots.

3.  Soupreme (last week 3) – 1st Blue – 89 pts

In what was billed as a David versus Goliath type contest, Soupreme went against the winless Top Deck Kings this past week and just ducked a rock to the forehead, escaping with a two point victory. Cheesee10 and DeerJason are the first teammates to both have a 500 PR at the same time after combining for a 6-1 record against the opposition's top two seeds. If that sounds familiar it's because it's the third time it's happened this season.

THL Power Rankings: Week 4

3/9/2016

by TeamHearthLeague AP
Picture
As week four concluded so did the period of non-divisional games within season two of Team Hearth League. Some divisions have clear front-runners and some divisions are completely up for grabs, but each division will have its own unique drama play out over the next four weeks.

Looking at the league as a whole it would seem three teams have risen to the top, while everything below them is a little less clear. Just look at this past week—five of the top eight teams walked away with a loss. Let's see what the rankings look like before we kick off divisional games.

1. Team Rank Five (last week 1) – 1st Orange – 72 pts

The top team in the orange division, Team Rank Five faced off against its counterpart in the red division this past week in Continuum and emerged victorious. JesusC picked up his fourth win and is making a very strong case as the best fifth seed in the league, just one of the many threats on this dangerous team. After an early upset and some roster transitions it seems TR5 has settled in and is situated perfectly for the start of division play.

2. The Hairy Generals  (last week 2) – 2nd Blue – 69 pts

The Hairy Generals followed up an impressive win over Xnergy with a repeat performance over Pure Strategy this past week.  This gives the Generals one of the best record in the league. Newcomer PokeHer had an eye-opening sweep over Hambowen and the Generals roster as a whole is incredibly strong and balanced.

3. Soupreme (last week 4) – 1st Blue – 73 pts

Picture
After a slight stumble last week against Pure Strategy, Soupreme corrected itself this week with a win over Xnergy. Cheesee10 and DeerJason holding Catota and Pacetry to one point is pretty remarkable but they weren't without help as Moo and Prometheus also chipped in with victories of their own.
