Hello THL,
For today’s interview, I have a Hall of Fame captain and arguably the greatest Hero Series captain of all time, Nineeyebrows. Diamond: What do you look for when constructing your rosters? Nine: Every roster I have captained has revolved around the core of SkrtReynolds/YouKittenMe/cmaccomph and me, so my job is just to find one or two who will mold well with us. Diamond: How would you describe your captaining style? Nine: Team-oriented? Like, I like to let my players decide what they wanna play and how they wanna approach each week. There is a lot of discussion between us all and I just focus heavily on all of us getting along and HAVING FUN. Diamond: Are there any moments over your time captaining that stick out? Nine: Hmm, the EWTWMSS season has to be my favorite. The shirts we got and all that were so incredible. Diamond: Do you find that you captain differently when you are playing versus when you are not playing? Nine: I find that I do, however the only seasons I did step back were seasons where we had AlwaysJustinTime on the team and that guy is so smurf that my job was easy.

Hello THL,
For today’s interview, I have the captain of the Sleepyhead Shakers and recent Hall of Fame Captain, Seth(ForChrist). Diamond: What do you look for when constructing your roster? Seth: I try to find some players that I know from ladder or streams that I’ve interacted with. I look for players who want to have fun but also can be competitive with the best teams. Diamond: How would you describe your captaining style? Seth: Very laid-back, just checking in a few times a week to make sure matches are scheduled and played, decks are submitted on time, etc. I’m very hands-off for the most part; my team has been around a while so they got a good handle on it. Diamond: Do you have any interest in captaining other series besides Wild? Seth: I’ve captained in Pro before and enjoyed it, I may return to captaining Standard series in the future. Diamond: What seasons have been your favourite in your tenure in THL thus far? Seth: All of my Wild seasons have been a blast, but especially our championship season and my undefeated season are highlights. Hello THL,
For today’s interview, I have last season’s Legacy-winning captain and HearthCenter’s own Geranium Battle. Diamond: What do you look for when constructing your rosters? Geranium: I mostly look for players who will be happy at their team position for the entire season. Because I almost exclusively captain the PR series (Hero and Legacy), players will likely be locked into that position for the season. I look at everything I know about the player (THL performance, ladder performance, being talkative, self-confidence, preparation, really anything I can scrounge up) and then make a guesstimate on whether they will very likely have an even season or better. If an entire team goes even on the season, they are usually winning enough weeks to be in playoff contention. If a player goes even, they usually feel okay enough to not be down on themselves and have their playoff performance suffer. They do have to be happy in that position, though. During my first seasons captaining Hero, DoctorBOMD was a player who only wanted to play in the 4 seed, despite already having a solid performance as a Legacy 1 seed under his belt. Clearly, he’s broken free from that mental block, seeing as he plays at the top of his rosters in every series. Still, even if a player could compete at the highest levels, they have to want to play there, or else you risk them throwing up their hands and saying, “See? There’s nothing I could do! I might as well not even practice!” Having happy players means you can work with them to try and set them up for success so much easier. |
