Week 2 was an outstanding week for THL. Full of close matches, the excitement kept up throughout the weekend.
On Saturday night we casted three matches of some of the leagues top players. Check out the VODs (Youtube) if you missed it! Match 1 - Slimsch vs. Jason Match 2 - Andyrogers vs. Delta4One (for some reason I can't get this to trim properly. skip to 1:05:00 for match 2) Match 3 - Imbolc vs. YuruYuri Here's the current standings in both conferences. While the Gosu Casuals seem poised to run away with the Horde conference, the Alliance conference is hotly contested. This weekend we have a thrilling triple-header featuring some of the league's heaviest hitters. Top seeded players from 6 of the 12 teams will battle for points with an audience watching. Join us for the fun and cheer on your teammates as our casters call the action, play-by-play.
The action starts at 9:30 PM EDT Saturday, April 26th. http://www.twitch.tv/teamhearthleague Join us this Sunday for a great community event! Matches will be casted on our Twitch channel. This tournament is open and free for THL member that is registered for the Beta season .
Free agents, get noticed by captains just before the signing deadline! Captains, scout players for your team! Join us for a great time getting to know each other before the season starts! Register: http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/RtYwKgAAcM As we gear up for the Beta season, I’d like to give some perspective of where we will be taking the league in future seasons and how the Beta season fits into that plan.
From the Alpha Season to the Beta Season, the league has more than doubled in size. We are working toward a regular weekly schedule of casted matches on Twitch, and we continue to build a community based on a passion for a game. Our goal with THL is to create something lasting that enriches the Hearthstone community, and we thank you for your participation in its creation. In the next few seasons, we will introduce a “Pro” league with cash prize pools. At first, these prize pools will be funded by the participants. 100% of the prize pool collected from the players will be distributed back to the players, with winning teams winning money, middle-finishing teams breaking even, and losing teams losing their buy-in. When the “Pro” league becomes active, we will continue to offer a completely free league for more casual player and those still working to Establish their PR. Eventually we would like to offer seasons and tournaments with prize pools that are free for all participants. A “Pro” league will function in the same way as current season, with the same PR system and team PR cap to ensure good competitive matches for players of all levels. The only additional requirements to join a “Pro” league is to have an “Established” PR. A player’s PR becomes Established when the player has 20 recorded matches with the league. At that point, we have enough data about your results to apply a more complex formula that will result in a more accurate PR number. It’s very important to us to keep our unsigned players engaged while they wait for their opportunity as a sub or replacement player. Each week during the Beta season we will be hosting a mini-tournament for our unsigned free agents to participate in. This gives our unsigned players a way to work towards establishing their PR while meeting other members, practicing in the format, and getting noticed by captains. Lastly, we had very positive feedback from our streaming of the final week the Alpha season. Streaming is fun aspect for our members to participate in and to watch, and we are working to expand the amount of streaming that happens in the Beta season. We will have a sign-up sheet coming where players can volunteer to have their league match casted, to do the casting themselves, or help with the production side of streaming. If you think you’re the next Frodan or m1lkcast now might be your chance! TL;DR
Registration
The Players page (http://www.teamhearthleague.com/players.html) on the THL website lists the current signing status of all registered players. This page is updated daily. Any player or captain without a “Y” in the “Registered” column on the Players page is considered “unregistered” and is not eligible for the draft or participation in the Beta Season until they register. Players can register for the Beta Season at http://www.teamhearthleague.com/season-beta-registration.html. A directory of email addresses will be sent to all registered players and captains. Only registered players are included in this directory. Updated versions of this directory will be distributed as needed. Free Agency Anyone who has registered for the BETA season and has not been “signed” to a team by a captain is considered a free agent. This includes those who were on a team in the ALPHA season. If you are a free agent, you can be signed to a team before the “draft” day (12 Apr) if you and a team captain both agree, complete the Player Signing Form. For those teams that aren't complete (e.g. not containing 5 signed members) by draft day, an algorithm will be applied (“draft”) to fill any empty spots with free agents of an appropriate player rating (PR). Current team signing status can be viewed on the Teams page. Any undrafted free agents after that point, act as substitutes for players that can't make their matches. Substitutions are arranged by captains, usually early in the week. Note to Captains - if you want to scout talent from the free agent pool before the draft, check the Team Hearth League website (http://www.teamhearthleague.com/players.html) to see a listing of available players. Use the email directory or the Facebook group to aid in communicating with player prospects. Protip: strong players of every PR get signed quickly! Assignment Algorithm To determine the PR cap, the average PR for the league was calculated. Then ~10% was added to allow some ‘wiggle room.’ This yielded a PR cap value of 1850. Therefore, the sum of a team’s players’ PR may not be greater than 1850 before the season starts. On draft day, any unassigned team spots will be filled with players based on their PR, ensuring an even distribution of “strength,” and compliance with the cap system. Activity For Unsigned Players We are currently working on a tournament structure where free agents may play against each other based on their PR. This will allow everyone in the league (that wants to play) a chance to get some games in. This can function to increase player’s reputation and PR, making them more attractive candidates for substitution into the league this season, and leads to better positioning for next season’s draft. More information on this will be available later, so keep checking the Facebook page! If you have any questions or concerns, you can comment here, by email, or on the Facebook Page. Thank you! Dear Captains and Players,
We realize that there is a good amount of uncertainty regarding the drafting process and transition clarifications (from Alpha Season) amongst you. We apologize for not being clear enough and will address those topics by the weekend. To accommodate the extra time needed for organization and coordination for both captains and players, we will push the start date of the league by a week. The scheduled kick off date is now 12 April. Please comment below any questions or concerns so we can address them in the coming days for the benefit of the whole league. - THL Management |
