THL World Cup - Day 8 Recap

As you can see, we're in the terminal stages of the group round.  14 players have already punched their ticket to the next round and 15 will have to cheer their region on from the sideline.  All 1 seeds will have a bye as will the two best 2 seeds (based on record first, then match wins, then fewest losses).  Before we get to the groups and what happened yesterday, let's take a look at the seeds and where they currently stand.

5-3 appears to be the cutoff point right now.  5-2 is the only way to surpass that as a 2 seed.  If we end up with a multi-way tie then the two byes will be given via random draw on Wednesday.  Which speaking of...

Group A:

Signs of life in Group A as Aviously defeats SuperMurloc to move to 2-0 (4-0).  Avi is almost assured a spot in the next round barring a pair of specific sweeps in the next two games.

Group B:

This group still has a long way to go to decide anything, but iCon showed up and took a 2-1 win over Boozasaurus.  This is the only group remaining where every player is still mathematically alive.

Group C:​

I told you all that I can't evaluate myself properly.  Ozmanaut sweeps the group taking down Donde 2-1 and proves that the old decks are just as potent (if not more so) than the new ones.

​Group D:

Lots of action here last night.  Diamond went from no games played to all three matches "played".  Unfortunately there was a scheduling conflict with TheChronic that resulted in a DQ.  Diamond lost to LotusKnight 0-2 and defeated SirLos 2-1.  Only 1 match remains to decide who will join TheChronic in the next round.

Group E: 

Mayanadon gets on the board and back in the fight with a 2-0 win over JR.  JR is now officially eliminated at 0-3 and yet another 2 seed hinges on the final match.

Group F:

This group is interesting as the two participants are determined but not their seed.  BrushyTuna's win 2-0 win over BlueSpartan was about as spoiler-y as it gets as that eliminated BlueSpartan and paved the way for Anfal and RonMexico to advance.  BlueSpartan now gets to spoil Anfal's perfect run (if he can!).

Group J:

This group completed play last night as Lefty got his first win over Snake, and it was a big one.  The 2-0 win brought both players to 1-2 and with a tied record but since Lefty was the winner of the head to head, he will advance.  He is currently the only 1-2 player to do so.
