THL Power Rankings: S8/5, Week 6!

2/14/2018

Picture
Every week, we will be bringing you a new, updated version of the Power Rankings, encompassing both Ragnaros and Sylvanas Leagues. Every Wednesday evening, watch this space for Ericokey and FollowDurden's Ragnaros League rankings, and MojoPowell and YellowDart's Sylvanas League rankings! If you don't fancy the read, then the rankings will also be discussed every Thursday evening on Tavern Talk, 9PM at twitch.tv/teamhearthleague. Really, you have no excuse to not know what everyone thinks of your team! Overall standings are decided by a mixture of both author's individual rankings, as well as a healthy helping of good old fashioned data, provided by Starlax. What's more, we asked you, the THL community, to weigh in with your own rankings: CR denotes the average Community Ranking, while PR denotes Previous Ranking. Read on!

Ragnaros League: Week 6

1 Thermic Whims (CR 1; PR 1)
Thermic Whims win... again. This time, they defeated the team that leads the blue division. They have 3 weeks to go and the chances of them going undefeated don't seem too unlikely.
Player to watch: Rizen
Will rebound: Brewski
-Ericokey
2 Spicey Boys (CR 5; PR 2)
The Boys keep a trend growing as they pull out another close victory versus a potential playoff team, beating BB&B 14-10. Wolfmack keeps rolling w/ a sweep this week, putting him at 3-1 for the last 4x weeks. If he can keep performing at this level, the team has very few reasons to not make the playoffs.
Player to Watch: Wolfmack
Will Rebound: MulletDGAF

-FollowDurden
3 Always Topdeck Lethal (CR 6; PR 4)
ATL has a world of momentum on their sides at this point, taking 54 of 60 possible points over the last 3x weeks. This past week’s victim? Team Mox. This week’s victim? Oh, just the other division leader in this conference, the Spicey Boys. Holy shit, is there a reason all 5x of these matches aren’t being streamed?
Player to Watch: The whole damn team
Will Rebound: Your mom
-FollowDurden
4 Hearthstone Academy (CR 2; PR 3)
HSA, the blue division leaders, played the red division leader Thermic Whims this week and it wasn't pretty. HSA lost 15-11. That being said, both of these teams should be locks for playoffs unless one has a meltdown, so this week was more of a pregame for the real game to come in playoffs.
Player to watch: Memyselfandi
Will rebound: Bluesombrero
-Ericokey
5 Team Swagoi (CR 8; PR 5)
Swagoi did what they needed to do last week, which was crush a bottom dwelling team and get themselves back into the playoff seeding. They’re firmly in control of their own destiny, w/ an 11 point lead over the 4-seed at this point.
Player to Watch: Anamor
Will Rebound: Brasky
-FollowDurden
6 Thundergun Express (CR 3; PR 13)
Thundergun Express got a big win this week against Dirty Mike and the Boys which was another team right beside them in the playoff race.  This week helps put some distance between them and the rest of the teams but only by a little bit. They will still need to continue to win because one bad week could put them right back where they were.
Player to watch: Nate
Wil rebound: Misadventure
-Ericokey
7 Team Next Level (CR 4; PR 6)
Team Next Level took a big loss this week to Defias Brotherhood. They are going to need to rebound from this quick if they want to stay in the playoff race.
Player to watch: Darkseid
Will rebound: Jammies
-Ericokey
8 Bloodbath & Beyond (CR 11; PR 9)
BB&B lost another very close week, this time to the powerhouse Spicey Boys. Teams that make the playoffs get points where they can, and there’s only been one week where BB&B tossed a crapper. No, they’re not crushing people, but they don’t have to. In Rag Season 6, a team that made the finals only had 2x Ws in the regular season, but they also had 4x ties and were always chipping away w/ 10+ points/week. Deja vu.
Player to Watch: Hockey
Will Rebound: Aeo
-FollowDurden
9 Project Mayhem (CR 12; PR 12)
Mayhem performed their act of service for the season, rolling over for the Noobs this past week. Seriously, how does this collection of talent keep dropping matches? But, in the end, does it matter if they still somehow make the playoffs. After the eggs they’ve dropped the past few weeks, they’re only sitting 2 points out of playoff seeding. Could this be the little train that could? Will Durden ever again win a played-out series? Tune in next week.
Player to Watch: Markshire
Will Rebound: Itachi
-FollowDurden
10 Prep Coin Concede (CR 10; PR 7)
Ouch. That stings. PCC lost to a team that was - for all intents and purposes - on the ropes. And, they gave up a boatload of points and created another competitor for that extremely valuable playoff 4-seed. Rebobson was the only PCC player to pull a W this week. In Week 7 they draw another potential playoff team in Mayhem. Here’s hoping they blow it again.
Player to Watch: Rebobson
Will Rebound: Pick someone
-FollowDurden
11 Really Nice Guys (CR 7; PR 10)
Really Nice Guys lost to Xnergy this week but did put up 11 points. Those points keep them right at the back of the teams looking in for playoffs.
Player to watch: Swankytiger
Will rebound: Krakshot
-Ericokey
12 Dirty Mike and the Boys (CR 9; PR 8)
Dirty Mike and the Boys took another loss this week to Thundergun Express. They are sitting at the back of the pack and will need to have strong weeks to finish out the season if they want to make playoffs.
Player to watch: TonyMontana
Will rebound: Lefty2111
-Ericokey
13 Texas Stubbies (CR 13; PR 14)
“Givem da stubb!!!” The Texas Stubbies had a huge win this week that shot them right back into playoff contention. They will look to carry this momentum going foward for as long as they can.
Player to watch: DrMandingo
Will rebound: Sirlos
-Ericokey
14 Team Mox (CR 15; PR 11)
Mox had their chance to place themselves firmly in the playoff conversation, and instead they were rolled by ATL in Week 6, losing 8-17. Their lone win in the matchup came from their captain in the 5-seed. They now find themselves firmly in a cluster of humanity fighting for that last 4 spot, and things don’t get easier from here as they have BB&B in Week 7.
Player to Watch: Force of Will
Will Rebound: Mattatarms
-FollowDurden
15 The Pod People (CR 14; PR 16)
Holy cow. The Pod People played the role of fire extinguisher in Week 6, putting out the fire that had previously been known as Prep Coin Concede. MojoPowell and RockBass led the way w/ 3-0 sweeps, and Hat and Zerotio rounded out the effort w/ their own Ws. Just like that, the Pods join the swarm that is teams vying for the playoff 4 spot. #hsthings
Player to Watch: Hat
Will Rebound: Mojopowell
-FollowDurden
16 Team Xnergy (CR 16; PR 15)
X gave it to Really Nice Guys this week. They are going to need to make sure they don't run out of it to give if they want to make their slim chance of making playoff a reality.
Player to watch:BoomBoomHall
Will rebound: Inposition
-Ericokey
17 Defias Brotherhood (CR 17; PR 17)
The Brotherhood really has started to rally behind their new 3 seed. It may be too late into the season to matter but the teams who are unlucky enough to have to face this team’s top 3 seed in these last few weeks better be ready for a tough match.
Player to watch: Twizz
Will rebound: Xilon
-Ericokey
18 Maple Syrup Inc. (CR 18; PR 18)
Maple syrup Inc. loses again this week to no surprise. This team is in dream crush mode for the rest of the season. At least Canada is doing decently in the Winter Olympics.
Player to watch: Kaitlyn Lawes
Will rebound: Saku
-Ericokey
19 Noob Central (CR 19; PR 20)
Boom, they got your boyfriend. The Noobs get the monkey off their backs w/ their first win of the season, taking a 12-11 victory over Mayhem. Although they didn’t collect their free points vs Mayhem’s 4-seed, Stephieee knocked off the previously undefeated Itachi in the 2-seed. She’s won 3 of her last 4.
Player to Watch: Stephieee
Will Rebound: Slimsch
-FollowDurden
20 Bad Hombres (CR 20; PR 19)
Yes, the Hombres are bad. But if you’ve not been paying attention to the performance of TheAnarchist out of the 4-seed, then you’re missing out. Since moving to the 4-seed he’s gone undefeated, including a huge win over Brasky this past week.
Player to Watch: TheAnarchist
Will Rebound: Pick anyone not named TheAnarchist
-FollowDurden

Sylvanas League: Week 6

1 Booty Sweat (CR 1; PR 2)
Booty Sweat takes down Team Next Level in an interesting showdown of the Sylvanas league leaders. An impressive 3-0 from TheAnarchist, as well as wins from Cody and Sirlos, solidify Booty Sweat’s position as a playoff team. It seems incredible unlikely that Booty Sweat won’t be the Gold division winners this season, tied with Team Next Level and DadLegend at 101 points. Next week they will face Tan Pam’s Surf Slam, and look to keep them out of the playoffs.
Player to Watch: TheAnarchist
Will Rebound: Ericokey
-MojoPowell
2 Team Next Level (CR 2; PR 1
Team Next Level loses the week, but continues their dominance of the Sylvanas League, staying on top of the points total in the purple division. CARY continues to be a powerhouse player in the one seed, blasting Ericokey out of the water in a 3-0 sweep. A strong performance from Donde as well shows that Team Next Level is still ready to fight for their playoff spot. A match against the Big Deck Bandits is on deck (get it?) for Team Next Level, and they seem ready to step up to the plate and knock them right out of playoff contention.
Player to Watch: CARY
Will Rebound: Altenberg
-MojoPowell
3 DadLegend (CR 3; PR 4)
While spanking may be a topic of debate in parenting circles, the DadLegend squad weighed in by administering a brutal one this week to the Boars (though we’re not completely sure what they did to deserve it). With wins at every seed this was by far their best performance of the season and was highlighted by Junksterr pulling off a sweep in the 4 seed and Egman continuing his winning ways in the 1 seed while playing on stream. The 23 point max out this week puts them back on top of the conference heading into the final week of the season.
Player to Watch: The Entire Team
Will Rebound: #N/A; not possible to rebound from sweep
-YellowDart
4 Thiccbois (CR 6; PR 3)
The Thiccbois lose an important match this week against the Big Deck Bandits. A close match, with a final score of 12-16, ties Big Deck Bandits with the Thiccbois at 94 points; the highest wild card contenders at the moment. This loss was huge, because had they won, the wild card slot for Purple/Gold would be much easier to grab. Sadly, and uncharacteristic (and very close) loss in the 1-seed makes this playoff race much more interesting going into their match against Team Black Lotus
Player to Watch: BobbyGibbs
Will Rebound: earl
-MojoPowell
5 Big Deck Bandits (CR 4; PR 7)
The Bandits used this week to show that they mean business, and that their decks are, in fact, pretty darn big. A 16-12 victory over the Thiccbois puts Big Deck Bandits in a spot to secure themselves a spot in the playoffs. An impressive sweep from 2 seed inposition is a good sign heading into their final week, where they will show off against Team Next Level. It will be a tough match, but if the Bandits pull off a win, they’ll have a very very good chance at playoffs.
Player to Watch: inposition
Will Rebound: Finnickodare
-MojoPowell
6 The Fearless Hearth (CR 7; PR 5)
The Fearless Hearth picks up another nice win, taking out Red Division leaders Toliwag’s Disciples 14-12 in a close one. Aviously sets the tone with a sweep in the 1 seed while Fancy19 and Kazootaroot pick up close ones to seal the win. Despite the win, Fearless Hearth drops to 2nd in Blue but is certainly within striking distance of the top spot heading into the final week as they take on Xnergy.
Player to Watch: Aviously
Will Rebound: Kuthroat
-YellowDart
7 Tan Pam’s Surf Slam (CR 5; PR 8)
Tan Pam’s Surf Slam shows Team TRYHARD a new meaning of the word “beating”, with 3 clean sweeps in the 2, 3, and 4 seeds. The 5-seed Ozmanaut also picks up a 3-1 win, and the only loss goes to Nate, who lost to...DrDr8del. The sub with a lower PR than ⅘ of Tan Pam’s players. While embarrassing, Nate will look to redeem himself (and his PR) against the dominant force of Booty Sweat in this week’s match, and are just looking for enough points to grab that wild card slot that everyone seems to be capable of clinching.
Player to Watch: DurtyMike
Will Rebound: Nate
-MojoPowell
8 Toliwag’s Disciples (CR 9; PR 6)
Toliwag takes a close loss this week against last week’s Blue Division leaders but maintain their lead in Red. Switters maintains his undefeated record for the season and will actually move up into the 1 seed while Thatjester picks up the other win this week.  Their last match of the season vs DadLegend will go a long way towards determining playoff seeding.
Player to Watch: Switters
Will Rebound: Jimphilos
-YellowDart
9 Tinyfin Fan Club (CR 8; PR 9)
Tinyfin does just enough this week to squeak out a win vs the Hero Power Rangers as they continue to move up the standings as the season draws to a close. Anamor, ArcaneTHL and Gkick all get it done. The win this week actually puts them up into the 3 seed for playoffs and makes it look more and more likely we’ll be seeing them in the playoffs again. You’d have to like their odds to hang on as they take on the Sheep.
Player to Watch: Anamor
Will Rebound: Jaspyr
-YellowDart
10 Xnergy (CR 10; PR 10)
The X is just giving it out, making their customary late season run to the playoffs. This week the recipients were the Sheep. Wolfmack and Starlax (again?!) completed 3-0’s and two of those is usually enough to do it. UrthShattr takes the win and the 5 seed and don’t look now but X is only 4 points out of  a playoff spot but have a tough matchup this week vs The Fearless Hearth.
Player to Watch: Wolfmack & Starlax
Will Rebound: BlueSpartan
-YellowDart
11 Team Black Lotus (CR 11; PR 14)
Another relatively easy matchup for Team Black Lotus results in a win against Team HearthCoach. Force of Will turns his season around with a 3-0 sweep of Stylomax, showing that maybe it’s been the meta that’s been holding him back. The only loss was from Cyclometh, who received a 3-0 from ForrestBates. Black Lotus is out of the playoff race, but their match against the Thiccbois could certainly impact the shape of the post-season, so we’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out.
Player to Watch: Force of Will
Will Rebound: Cyclometh
-MojoPowell
12 Hero Power Rangers (CR 13; PR 11)
The Hero Power Rangers couldn’t come up with the clutch win they needed to give themselves a realistic shot at the playoffs. They’ll need a miracle to sneak in. Inkd pulls a sweep for the second week in a row and Zerotio puts up a strong performance in the 4 seed. They continue to dislike their seeds though as the top 4 players are all trading around again this week as they hope to pull out some crazy points vs the Boars this week to have any sort of chance.
Player to Watch: Inkd
Will Rebound: MattAtArms
-YellowDart
13 Xplosive Sheep (CR 14; PR 13)
The Sheep fall again this week this time having it given to them by the X. MojoPowell  is their highlight this week as he swept a strong 3 seed matchup vs BlueSpartan. Getting 0 points out of the 1 and 2 seeds this week really did them in. For their upcoming match, Mojo will actually jump all the way from 3 to 1 so we’ll see if the shake up on seeding has any impact on their results. The playoffs look out of reach at this point but they’ll finish up vs Tinyfin in what will be a crucial match for their opponents.
Player to Watch: MojoPowell
Will Rebound: Murdock
-YellowDart
14 Boars 65,340,285 (CR 12; PR 12)
The Boars saw their playoff hopes go up in flames this week after getting stomped 20-6 by DadLegend. Cinder & KombatWombat both put up 2 points each but that was the
most positive takeaway this week. They’ll close out the season vs the Hero Power Rangers and will be looking to deny them the miracle they need to become a playoff team while attempting to dodge last place in the conference.
Player to Watch: Rebobson
Will Rebound: SmileyKris
-YellowDart
15 Team TRYHARD (CR 15; PR 15)
TRYHARD proves that with the new meta, Warrior is STILL not viable. Wow. Who knew!? All of the players on TRYHARD who brought warrior got swept. Will this keep them from trying again? It’s doubtful. Their one victory this week comes from substitute 1-seed DrDr8del, who seems to have brought not meme classes. Maybe that’s why he won. TRYHARD has a 0% chance of making the playoffs, but they may pick up a second win for the season as they play Team HearthCoach.
Player to Watch: TheTownDrunk
Will Rebound: Sage
-MojoPowell
16 Team HearthCoach (CR 16; PR 16)
Team HearthCoach comes up short again this week, losing 9-16 to Team Black Lotus. Interestingly, the only member to get swept was the only one not to ban Warlock. Coincidence? I think not. 4-seed ForrestBates picks up an impressive win against Cyclometh, showing signs of improvement since last time we saw them. With their playoff dreams nonexistent, they will look to pick up their first win of the season.
Player to Watch: Forrestbirds
