THL Power Rankings: S8/5, Week 2!

1/18/2018

Picture
Every week, we will be bringing you a new, updated version of the Power Rankings, encompassing both Ragnaros and Sylvanas Leagues. Every Wednesday evening, watch this space for Ericokey and FollowDurden's Ragnaros League rankings, and MojoPowell and YellowDart's Sylvanas League rankings! If you don't fancy the read, then the rankings will also be discussed every Thursday evening on Tavern Talk, 9PM at twitch.tv/teamhearthleague. Really, you have no excuse to not know what everyone thinks of your team! Overall standings are decided by a healthy mixture of both author's individual rankings, as well as a healthy helping of good old fashioned data, provided by Starlax.

Ragnaros League: Week 2

1) Thermic Whims (PR: 1)
Thermic Whims continue to impress in Week 2 with their win over Xnergy. This is my pick for the team to finish with the highest point total at the end of the regular season.
Player to Watch: Brewski
Will Rebound: Rizen

-Ericokey
2) Bloodbath & Beyond (PR: 6)
BB&B continue their winning ways and have created an 8-point cushion for the Division lead. Against a very game PCC roster, this new team raked in 18 points in the week. The bottom half of their lineup, the 3-5 seeds, went 12-2 in points. Just, damn. That’s some strong stuff. Hockey recovered from getting decimated by Durden (v. modest of you, Durden) in Week 1, going 3-1 vs Jaspyr. Maybe there is hope for him after all.
Player to Watch: Starlax
Will Rebound: JoeHS
(the only person to lose in Week 2).
-FollowDurden
3) Team Swagoi (PR: 3)
Swagoi keeps rolling like the force they are, taking a divisional game versus the Spicey Boys. Their 1-4 seeds again post big numbers, going 10-7 in match play and 3-1 overall. If DocMcButt gets going in the 5 spot, the rest of the league could be on notice.
Player to Watch: TroyMcClure
Will Rebound: Anamor

-FollowDurden
4) Really Nice Guys (PR: 8)
This team is definitely one of the top teams in the league after the first two weeks; winning both weeks and putting up a high amount of points in the process. If they keep this up they will be in the playoffs for sure.
Player to Watch: AndyRogers
Will Rebound: Kr0ozin

-Ericokey
5) Team Next Level (PR: 5)

Team Next Level had a strong week, with a win over Thundergun Express. They will need that confidence boost this upcoming week with their opponents being Thermic Whims.
Player to Watch: Jammies
Will Rebound: Darkseid

-Ericokey
6) Hearthstone Academy (PR: 1)
HSA followed up their amazing Week 1 with a very lacklustre performance in Week 2 where they were defeated by Really Nice Guys 15-11. They will need to bounce back if they want to stay near the top of the Red/Blue conference.
Player to Watch: Bluesombrero
Will Rebound: MemyselfandI

-Ericokey
7) Team Mox (PR: 12)
A team with no glaring weakness puts up an 18-7 victory. Yup, that’s strong. This is a very balanced roster, from PR to veteran/rookie makeup. Their upcoming match with Swagoi could be season defining for both teams. Oh yeah, that’s this week. Holy. Shit.
Player to Watch: ArthurRhodes
Will Rebound: Bonja

-FollowDurden
8) Always Topdeck Lethal (PR: 4)

ATL fell to Mayhem in Week 2, despite strong performances from BlueSpartan and BlakeHall. Yet, the Yellow Division is still wide open and the team still sits in 2nd place waiting on BB&B to stumble. Spartan moves to 2-0 in the season.
Player to Watch: BlueSpartan
Will Rebound: DZB

-FollowDurden
9) Thundergun Express (PR: 6)

Thundergun Express still continues to have a lot of problems with their top seeds but the bottom of their lineup continues to put up wins. If they can start to get some wins in the 1 and 2 seeds then maybe they can turn it around before it gets too late.
Player to Watch: Lyondenn
Will rebound: Durtymike

-Ericokey
10) Project Mayhem (PR: 15)

Markshire pulled down the W in the 1-seed, as did Starden. Mayhem has a very balanced lineup, and there’s no doubt that SmileyKris will start making some noise in the 3-seed. But, at only 24 points in the season they’ll have their work cut out for them as they are 15 points behind Division leaders BB&B.
Player to Watch: Markshire
Will Rebound: SmileyKris

-FollowDurden
11) The Pod People (PR: 16)
The PP pulled out a 16-9 victory in Week 2 versus the Hombres. Notably, their 1-4 seeds went 12-5 in match play. Sick. MojoPowell swept in the 3-seed and Hat got on the board for the season with a 3-2 win. DirestBear is now 2-0 in the season, with a big Week 3 match vs Durden.
Player to Watch: DirestBear
Will Rebound: RockBass
 (only loss from Week 2)
-FollowDurden
12) Spicey Boys (PR: 9)

Two weeks and two very close losses against the two division frontrunners. Luckily for the Spicey Boys, things will get a bit easier from here, and they could still very well end up being the Thermic Whims of Season 8. Wolfmack still has yet to get out of the gates with a win, and they had to play a sub in Week 2 who went 0-3. There is still too much upside here to ignore. What a huge win for IronFire, beating Anamor 3-1.
Player to Watch: IronFire
Will Rebound: Wolfmack

-FollowDurden
13) Texas Stubbies (PR: 13)

The reigning champs are off to a slow start, losing both of their first two weeks. Though they lost both weeks, they did put up a good amount of points, if they keep their losses looking like this and get some win to go with them then I think they can turn it around.
Player to watch: Sirlos
Will rebound: Shunsui21

-Ericokey
14) Dirty Mike and the Boys (PR: 18)

Dirty Mike and the Boys bounced back in week 2 with a win after their terrible performance in week 1. They will need to keep this up though, if they want to catch up with the top teams in the Red/Blue conference.
Player to Watch: TonyMontana
Will Rebound: Lefty2111

-Ericokey
15) Team Xnergy (PR: 14)
Xnergy did not win this week but they did get was what will probably be one of their hardest weeks of the season out of the way, in their matchup with Thermic Whims. They still put up a respectable 10 points.
Player to watch: BoomBoomHall
Will rebound: Inposition

-Ericokey
16) Prep Coin Concede (PR: 9)
JetLaw moves to 2-0 in the season, but that would be the only series win for PCC. Rebobson pulled in 2 points in the 2-seed, but the rest of the roster couldn’t put up much of a fight the rest of the way. Regardless, this is a veteran lineup and it would be foolish to already count them out. Player to Watch: JetLaw
Will Rebound: Jaspyr

-FollowDurden
17) Bad Hombres (PR: 11)

The Hombres move to 0-2 for the season, but have still pulled down 23 points. It helped to have Leumer sweep in the 5-seed, but that would prove nearly half their points for the week. Week 3 could prove either the turning point or the death nail for Season 8, as they draw the division leading BB&B. Brunson vs Hockey in the 4-spot would be a tragedy to not get streamed.
Player to Watch: Leumer
Will Rebound: Dunamis

-FollowDurden
18) Defias Brotherhood (PR: 20)
Defias Brotherhood had a weird week in their match with Maple Syrup inc.; in which all of the matches were sweeps except the 1 seed match, which was 3-1 in favor of Defias. Defias ended up winning the week in this bizarre set of one sided matches.
Player to Watch: Twizz
Will rebound: Xilon

-Ericokey
19) Maple Syrup Inc. (PR: 17)

This team continues to have trouble in week 2 and they will need to fix these problems fast because they are falling out of the playoff race very early in the season. This will be a big matchup for them this week against Thundergun Express, where they will need to prove themselves.
Player(s) to watch: Aviously, Tweeg, Jaxox, Saku
Will rebound: Aviously, Tweeg, Jaxox, Saku

-Ericokey
20) Noob Central (PR: 18)

The Noobs remain on the Struggle Bus. Slimsch did get back in the win column this past week, beating Bonja 3-2. However, Stephieee drops another series and is now 1-6 on the season. This after a ROY-type season in Rag 7. There’s too much talent on this team for them continue to lose.
Player to Watch: Slimsch
Will Rebound: Stephieee

-FollowDurden

Sylvanas League: Week 2

1) Team Next Level (PR: 6)
Team Next Level continues to prove that they are truly a level above most of the competition, as they sweep the floor with Team HearthCoach. Literally. It was a sweep. Team Next Level looks like a serious threat in the rest of this season, with a lineup that appears to have very few weak links, from a powerhouse one seed in CARY, to a solid undercosted five in Saku.
Player to Watch: Saku
Will Rebound: I jinxed Booty Sweat last week by saying they had nothing to improve, so we’ll say Jammies.
-MojoPowell
2) Thiccbois (PR: 3)

The Thiccbois retain their air of dominance, doubling the amount of points scored by their opponents, Team TRYHARD. While yes, a victory against the biggest memers around isn’t exactly something to put on your resume, the dominating fashion in which they won boasts that the Thiccbois want to remain players in the playoff race.
Player to Watch: RedditGoat
Will Rebound: earl

-MojoPowell
3) DadLegend (PR: 4)
DadLegend keeps up their hot start, giving it to the X after suffering a heartbreaking loss to them to close last season. Junksterr delivered his first career THL win this week while Rizen bounced back this week as well. YellowDart has already equalled his win total from last season (which was miserable).
Player to Watch: Wowdotben
Will Rebound: Egman

-YellowDart
4) Toliwag’s Disciples (PR: 8)
These guys are showing last week was no fluke with another strong performance, this time knocking off the defending champions, Tinyfin Fan Club, as the 2-5 seeds all picked up wins. Switters had a nice 3-1 win over ArcaneTHL in a battle of strong 3 seeds and we know Bonja will bounce back soon; when he does this group has the look of a serious playoff threat.
Player to Watch: Switters
Will Rebound: Bonja

-YellowDart
5) Big Deck Bandits (PR: 11)
In an incredibly surprising turn of events, the Bandits demolish Booty Sweat, completely turning things around for the team. Inposition, Finnickodare, and DocMcButt all swept their opponents, while the other two took home 2 wins a piece in an outstanding performance against what looked like a powerhouse team. If this kind of match becomes a regular thing for the Bandits, they’re looking at a top spot in this season.
Player to Watch: DocMcButt
Will Rebound: Stephieee

-MojoPowell
6) Booty Sweat (PR: 1)
Booty Sweat may be starting to feel the heat with a 8-16 defeat against some thieves wielding unusually large stacks of cards. The bottom three seeds of Shunsui21, Cody, and TheAnarchist all took major 3-0 losses, leaving us to hope that they can get it together and show this week’s opponent (Team Black Lotus) that they mean business.
Player to Watch: Ericokey
Will Rebound: Shunsui21

-MojoPowel
7) Tinyfin Fan Club (PR: 2)
The defending champs suffer their first loss of the new season after dropping three 3-2’s to Toliwag’s Disciples. If you’re going to lose, these guys did it the right way, with some respectable points. Anamor picked up their lone win in a battle of high-powered 1 seeds with Bonja.
Player to Watch: Anamor
Will Rebound: ArcaneTHL

-YellowDart
8) Team Black Lotus (PR: 10)
Black Lotus closes out a week two victory against Tam Pam’s Surf Slam, a team that appeared quite formidable. Strong victories from consistent players like Arthur Rhodes seem to be leading this team in the right direction. This week they face Booty Sweat, one of our originally predicted strong teams, so we’ll see how well the Lotuses (Loti?) can perform against hard hitters such as ericokey and DurtyMike.
Player to Watch: Arthur Rhodes
Will Rebound: ForceOfWill

-MojoPowell
9) The Fearless Hearth (PR: 13)
The Fearless Hearth turned it around this week as they dominated the Boars. Apexpredador turned it around as predicted in this column last week while Kuthroat continues his winning ways. A 1 seed sweep by Aviously and a strong showing in the 4 by Fancy19 were impressive as well. Now can The Fearless Hearth keep it up next week vs the Hero Power Rangers?
Player to Watch: Kuthroat
Will Rebound: Kazootaroot

-YellowDart
10) Hero Power Rangers (PR: 12)

It’s Smorcin’ Time for the Hero Power Rangers, as they get to enjoy their first Sylvanas League win. Strong performances in the lower seeds for the second week in a row were enough to carry them over the hump this time. Zerotio in the 4 seed looks like a tough out at that spot going forward.
Player to Watch: MattAtArms
Will Rebound: Inkd

-YellowDart
11) Tam Pam’s Surf Slam (PR: 5)

Tam Pam gets slammed into the turf with a devastating loss to Team Black Lotus. Despite picking up two wins, the series wasn’t all that close, with the two and three seeds both receiving 3-0 beatings. All in all, Tam Pam still has time to regain their footing before this week’s showdown against Team HearthCoach, and will hopefully rebound from this defeat.
Player to Watch: Ozmanaut
Will Rebound: DurtyMike

-MojoPowell
12) Xplosive Sheep (PR: 9)
The Sheep took wins from the 1 & 2 seeds this week where they’re at a sharp PR disadvantage (Murdock and mattyebs were both nearly 100 PR underdogs), normally that would set up well for them but they were unable to close out any matches in the lower seeds. They’ll continue to seek out their first win of the new season next week vs DadLegend.
Player to Watch: mattyebs
Will Rebound: BitBeaker

-YellowDart
13) 65,340,285 Boars (PR: 7)

Despite their numerical advantage the Boars took a tough loss this week against The Fearless Hearth. The lone bright spot was NecroticHS pulling off the sweep as no one else was able to put up more than 1 point. They’ll look to rebound next week against a tough opponent in Toliwag’s Disciples.
Player to Watch: NecroticHS
Will Rebound: SmileyKris

-YellowDart
14) Xnergy (PR: 14)
After the X gave it to DadLegend last Season they had it given back to them this week in a lopsided loss. Wolfmack however continues to shine in the 1 seed pulling off a sweep this week. It doesn’t get any easier from here as the X takes on Tinyfin Fan Club next week, they’ll need a good showing to get back on track.
Player to Watch: Wolfmack
Will Rebound: Starlax

-YellowDart
15) Team Hearthcoach (PR: 15)

Another disappointing week for Team Hearthcoach doesn’t bode well for the team’s future this season. Not a single match win came out of their series with Team Next Level. They have had rough opponents the first two weeks in Next Level and Thiccbois, but things won’t get any easier this week as they face off against Tam Pam’s Surf Slam.
Player to Watch: BlakeHall
Will Rebound: FRIDGaming

-MojoPowell
16) Team TRYHARD (PR: 16)

Week two for Team TRYHARD went slightly better than week one, with a victory being picked up by Joe_HS, but their classes still seem to indicate the meme dream team. Still, a couple more game victories and they could probably win one even with unconventional decks.
Player to Watch: Joe_HS
Will Rebound: Sage

-MojoPowell
