The More You Know, Episode 4 with ironFIRE

Welcome to “The More You Know,” a segment where ironFIRE walks you through some obscure Hearthstone interactions that you may not be familiar with. Big thanks to Itachi this week for taking the time to play a challenge game.


This week it’s playoffs edition! I played my shudder shaman vs. Dog’s deathrattle hunter. Well, sorta. I replaced my earth shocks with other 1 mana spells… for science. But also because I could get those spells off of Hagatha and I need to know how they interact!

​With 4 minions on board, I played Electra then Voltaic Burst. Does Voltaic Burst cast twice and overload me for 2, or does the fact that the board is full after it’s cast the first time mean I only overload for 1?

It only overloads for one! The player wouldn’t be able to cast the spell into a full board, so Electra isn’t able to either. Same thing happens with Electra + Lightning Bolt. If the minion dies to the first bolt, the spell only casts once.

​After playing Electra with a Wild Pyromancer on the board, I cast lightning storm. How many times does the Wild Pyromancer activate: one or two?

​It only activates once! The first spell is cast by the player and triggers the pyromancer, but the second spell is cast by Electra, so it does not activate the pyromancer.

​Itachi developed Swamp King Dred onto the board. I have an opportunity to play Shudderwock. Do the Shudderwock battlecries activate before Swamp King Dred kills it?

Swamp King Dred activates after a minion is played. Hence, the Shudderwock battlecries activate first. In fact, not only do the battlecries activate first, but in this game the MC Tech battlecry stole the Swamp King Dred, then Zola returned it to my hand.
