I asked for a picture of Shunsui, and he sent me an email full of memes. Here is Shunsui's role model.

Sage: Greetings, rival... I see you managed to escape the shadow realm. You may keep your Millennium Rod.. for now. Congratulations on your triumphant victory. Let's begin this with getting to understand you a little better. Tell us about yourself, if you don't mind.

Shunsui: Well, it’s a hard job being awesome but someone has to do it. Haha. I moved to Augusta, GA in 1992 when i was a wee lad at the age of five. Originally from Germany. Started gathering Millennium Items shortly after. I’m good at basketball, thats my shit. Father Time is undefeated, and after blowing my achilles in 2016 I’ve been doing more coaching than playing. The last two summers I’ve run BBall camps for the kids in the local community I grew up in. Madara Uchiha taught me that "power is not just simply 'will' alone… it is the ability to manifest your ideas and dreams to the physical realm". Change can happen it just takes time and determination. I’m Currently doing manager training at Dominos, and doin’ an internship under my bros Nade and Rebroson. Shout out to my guildmates!

Sage: Awesome that you take the time to coach. The world needs more healthy role models. Who is Madara Uchiha?

Shunsui: I try. I pay for the camps myself outta pocket so it won’t be no misgivings about why i do it. You don’t know about The Uchiha?  He is only one of the best Shinobi of our time. Although slightly misunderstood, his goal was to protect those closest to him as any man would. Used to be best friends with the 1st Hokage then they became deadly rivals...

Sage: Oh I see. I never got into Naruto. Heh. Good quote though. Back on topic, what kind of prep did you utilize and what do you think helped most?

Shunsui: Its great, get the filler list and just watch the canon. Well, E-Nyce always keeps an eye on me and lets me know that my card selection, while outlandish and colorful, is not correct all the time. If it was up to me all my decks would probably be some form of a menagerie deck, great for streams but considering your teammates you have to do the right thing. It became a ritual of sorts. We would link up, grab some rations, jam on some Fortnite (What up c0mp), then he would tell me take Ironbreak Owl out of my deck, ha ha. What helped the most was my cap’n believing in me. "You not gonna win em all, but when you do win...that’s whats up". And do math.

Sage: Ironbeak Owl lul. But Silence is so good in this meta! Faith in your team and the basic ability to do math are very important for success in THL, according to some rumors. When the nerfs were rumored to hit during a Thursday, did this affect your prep for that week? Did you end up choosing something you otherwise wouldn't have chosen?

Shunsui: I believe that was the week i was sent to the Principal’s Office. So, i was like full on Chrono Trigger, lets kick some ass that week. Ha ha. With Aggro Druid possibly becoming terrible there were some calls to be made for sure. Also Corridor Creeper becoming that 2/5 grub in Hunter hit me in the feels. I did Rag and Sylv so some of the match memories blend and I don’t want to disrespect any opponents. Just know that i studied the hearth real strong that week to not get caught off guard. And the guy in the Principal’s office with me was really pushing for like a Tuesday duel before the nerfs, that didn't even happen that week. I destroyed him into a pile of smoldering ash, gave him the sweaty booty stubb! With all due respect of course. I’m almost sure i kept my course true and ran with Druid, Warlock, Priest, and either Mage or Pally. But again, playin’ in both leagues sometimes the matches get blurred. I guess i could go click and check though..

Sage: I know i was happy to feel safe finally bringing Mage. Good that you kept true to yourself and believed in your choice of lineup. What decks do you most enjoy playing?

Shunsui: That teched out druid deck is really fun but sometimes it just does nothin’, though that can happen with a lot of decks if you draw bad. Menagerie Shaman is just the belle of the ball. I rep that Seto Kaiba so Dragon Priest, no combo, hold the cheese please if you catch my drift. Giving somebody Da Stubb wit’ Taunt warrior always feels great. Also: "Who's up for an adventure?". What up O.G. Fin, miss ya big dawg. I fuck with Mage too, I don’t have the Dragon Lady but i have her Weapon and giving ‘em Da Wyrm is like giving ‘em Da Stubb. Ha ha ha.

Sage: Turn 1 Mana Wyrm wins games! I love Mage so much, the weapon is really fun to just unload and reload every turn. Mad respect for your meme game, too.  The League of Explorers legendaries were certainly the best ever printed. Onto the next topic, this past season in THL has seen a lot of wholesome sportsmanship happening in the THL discord.  If you could meet anyone from THL for a beer (or other preferred beverage), who would it be?

Shunsui: Aww man, that’s a toughy fam. There are so many rivals and personalities in the Discord. Ha ha ha. I really dig the competitive fervor that has come about. Well i just had a brew wit’ Dirty Mike and the Boys a few weeks ago so that won't count. I owe BobbyGibbs a brewski for ending my undefeated streak on stream so there's that. I’d invite you Sage, you’re one of my favorite rivals. TheAnarchist gave me my first interview so he would have to pull up. Brasky a.k.a Broski, Nade, ForceOfWill, Jaxox, rebroson. My lil’ sis Stephieee (She said it's cool if I call her that). BlueSpartan for sure... Let’s get a pint or four of ale for my friends and I.

Sage: That's a really strong list of rivals. If i had to choose among them then it'd be Brewski, no contest. (editor’s note: apparently Sage can’t read.) Would definitely get a brew with you too, bud. If you can't choose just one rival to meet, then how about one to face off against next season?

Shunsui: I'm not one to do spoilers but Texas Stubbies 2: Electric Boogaloo may be on the hunt. Although Lefty2111 is my brother in arms and guildmate, he swept me in the Rag finals last season so i owe him one right on the chinny chin chin. If I can get past the mighty beard. I'll be keepin’ an eye on his name and seeding this season. If we land on opposite sides of the same conference I will most definitely have a show for our beloved audience.

Sage: Oh that'll be a juicy showmatch for sure. I was just about to ask if you had any plans for next season. I suppose you've shared your Rag league plans, but what about Sylvanas league?

Shunsui: I'm going to keep slamming out these articles and hope nobody disapproves of them. Haha, I'm always open to opinions so if anyone has any criticism about what I type just hit me up skinny pimp. For now I'll say "Sweat...Da Return of The Booty".  We may have to figure something out, the PR restrictions can really limit what you can do. I think E-Nyce hit 5 hunit. I have two championships and I am a former All-Star. So for me it'll always be heart of the cards, trusting my friends and keep pushing forward. I love the opportunities I've been given; it's been a fun ride, hopefully we all can keep rolling.

Sage: Glad to hear we'll be seeing some great teams return next season! It's there anything you'd like to say to your teammates or the league before we wrap up?
