Hello THL! It's almost expansion launch time, and to tide you by in the days coming up to the Witchwood (hype), we have something very special for you: our homeboy Sage has interviewed each and every one of our Sylvanas League Season 5 Champions, Booty Sweat, with a different one coming up each day and the final one you on launch day! Up next in this series, we have Booty Sweat's 3 Seed: Cody! -rebobson ![]() Sage: Congrats on winning the Sylvanas League Season 5 Championship! That was a really intense finals with Toliwag's. How about you tell us a little bit about yourself to start. Cody: Yeah it was a fun series. I'm 25, work at a sub place, and bounce between Magic and Hearthstone as the games I play way too much of. Sage: I can definitely relate. What color(s) do you play in magic? Cody: Usually gravitate to mono red aggro, or a degenerate strategy if available. Sage: I'm not nearly familiar enough with magic's meta to do anything degenerate. I personally only really play White/Red. My favored deck atm being a w/r soldier deck a friend brewed and gave to me, then I doctored to taste. Returning to Hearthstone, what contributing factors do you think lead to Booty Sweat's success? Cody: Everyone more or less just played what they were comfortable with, and worked together fairly well. Having Shunsui on any team means you already have basically won. Sage: Well obviously! After all he is the only member of THL to have a championship in both Ragnaros and Sylvanas league. What a guy. When the nerfs were rumored to hit, it seemed like the whole league panicked. How did you react & adapt? Cody: It really didn't change my classes too much, just had to stop bringing Rogue and ditch the Creepers. Sage: What about your deck choices? Cody: Just took out Golakkas from the decks that had it. Sage: In week 7, you went up against former Rag league teammate, DurtyMike. How did this week go for you? I remember a good amount of hype surrounding this match. Cody: I think it was close and I lost in 5, but it was a good series. Sage: Do you hope to run into him again next season for a grudge match? Cody: If it happens sure, but I’ll probably just sweep him if it does so it wouldn’t be that exciting. Sage: #shotsfired What kind of prep did you utilize and what do you think helped the most? Cody: I mostly just play ladder decks judging on certain matchups, or I ask Ericokey what he's been seeing and that seems to be successful. Sage: What deck do you like playing the most on ladder? Cody: I liked Silver Hand Pally early, and now Control Dragon Priest is fun. Sage: I remember you brought a dude Pally in week 1. You were just a little ahead of the curve with that bring huh. Do you think dude Paladin will still be good after Stand Against Darkness rotates? Cody: Yeah, I might have been able to do something on ladder with it if I was better. Probably, I’m sure there is something to fill the spot. Sage: Hopefully a better Paladin archetype gets found. I'm not fond of dudes. Do you have any plans yet for next season? Cody: Probably just play on Ericokey's or Nate’s team, depends on whether a better offer floats along. Sage: Is there even a better offer than getting to play with friends though? Cody: Fair point, but you know if there was one that existed.. Sage: They definitely exist! I'm certain of that. Looking back at all the matches played by everyone on Booty Sweat, is there one that feels most memorable for you? Cody: Not really, most of them I either got really lucky or the games didn't have much play. If I had to pick one, it would be my games against Altenberg Sage: What about your games versus Altenberg stood out to you? Cody: They were just very close, with a good bit of play in them. Sage: Fair enough. Wrapping up, anything you'd like to say to the league or your teammates? Cody: Nah, I’ll leave that one for Shunsui. Sage: Haha, alright then. I'm sure that will be a very fun interview! Thanks for your time tonight Cody, and congrats again. Good luck next season! -Sage & Cody
