Sylvanas Season 7 Team Reveal: The Ugly Mucklings

Get ready for Ragnaros Season 10 and Sylvanas Season 7 with our week-long series of team reveals!  We'll be revealing one team each day leading up to the grand stream reveal on Tavern Talk.  Remember to tune in to Twitch on Thursday (Ragnaros)  8/23 and Friday (Sylvanas) 8/24 to see the remaining teams and division assignments.  Today is our first Sylvanas reveal: The Ugly Mucklings captained by Starlax and written by JerryDamage!

We continue our preseason team reveals by switching over to Sylvanas league. For today’s reveal we take a look at a returning team, The Ugly Mucklings as we chat with their captain, Starlax.

So what made you want to return as a captain for this season?

Starlax: I really wanted to create a team and bring players I have played with or against together on a team. The team from last year did great getting into the playoffs and I just want to keep that going and hopefully win it with the 2nd iteration of the Ugly Mucklings. Being a GM of a pro hockey team is my all time dream job, never going to happen, so I get a little bit of that action here recruiting and working with other players.

Over the years we've seen several different strategies for how to build a team. What was your strategy as you put together your team?

Starlax: My first play was keeping ironFIRE a Muckling and discussed with him a little bit on the direction of the team. He was on the Spicy Boys when they won Rag two seasons ago and his captain from the Spicey Boys sent out a message he wanted to get back into THL, Wolfmack. Grabbing him secured the 1 seed and knowing that Starden was coming back along with ironFIRE I just had one spot left. I knew my 4 players for a week + and was paying attention to activity on the THL discord along with scouting out players who would fit my PR requirement. My goal was to find someone who was active on Discord who wanted to get better and would fit in well with the rest of the team. With my background as an accountant and your background being an accountant it just seemed like the perfect fit.

The sales pitch from another numbers guy was one I couldn't turn down.

Starlax: I’m part of the hated finance side now. The accountants get mad at me all the tie because I call them out when they screw up accruals. Putting two accountants in one room together is a party for everyone.

So tell me more about your first player.

Starlax: Wolfmack took a season off playing due to joining the Army Reserve and had to go through basic training. He was part of team Xnergy with me during Season 5 and was great player to play with. He ended up going undefeated that season. I spent many hours spectating his games along with just asking him questions and lineup strategies. At the same time he was playing with Spicy Boys in Rag with ironFIRE. Seemed like it was a complete no-brainer to get those two back on a team again! He can't be perfect though, he is a cat person when I'm a dog person so there is some potential team drama there.

Tell me about your second player.

Starlax: IronFIRE was on the originally iteration of the Ugly Mucklings which was his first season in Sylvanas league. A week or so after the Spicy Boys won Rag I ended up coming across him on the legend ladder and of course friended him and have been annoying him ever since. Didn’t take much convincing for him to join. Under my tutelage (debatable) he got top 8 at DH Austin, and his love of LHS was born. He brings a great mind for the game and just wants to be the best. Any captain would love to have him on the team. Cheer him on for the HCT Season Playoffs!

Who is your third player?

Starlax: Starden is the last of the original members of the Mucklings and he performed great last season. He finished with a positive game and match win rate and at a bargain PR. Last season he mentioned that work and family were absolutely crazy which makes this feat even more impressive. Since the expansion has been released he has been active playing and gearing up for a deep run this season.

Who’s your next player?

Starlax: That would be myself. LHS format is by far my favorite format and it has showed playing as a 1/2 seed all 3 seasons while never having a losing season. Last year I was an All Star going 6-2 and plan on continuing my winning ways. My only hope is that Dad Legend ends up in our conference for 2 reasons

1. WowDotBen is one of 2 people I have lost to in the past 2 years 0-3 lifetime and I want some revenge
2. and YellowDart likes to remind me of #1 all the time and I just want to wipe the floor with his moopy band of Dads!

​Who’s your last addition to the team?

Starlax: That would be you, JerryDamage.

So I’m the last member. I was on Booty Sweat last season as a sub then as a full time player. They decided to not continue as a team so I was looking for a new team. When you came to me with the lineup, I got excited. I’m always looking to learn and improve my gameplay and with the talent on this team I know I’d get plenty of that over the course of the season. I wanted to be on a team that can compete for a title and I really believe we can do that with this lineup.

Any final comments as we head into Season 7?

Starlax: The best part about the team/community through the first part of Boomsday is the collaboration we have had so far. We are going to take this fire and teamwork and bring it for the upcoming season. Like one Herm Edwards said, "You play to win the game!" and that is our expectation and desire. We don't care what conference or division we fall into we expect to be #1. As much as I love the players on the Boars they will not repeat as champs. #MuckYou
