JerryDamage takes us through the possible playoff scenarios as the final two weeks of the season play out. It’s that time of the season where we start to look towards the playoffs. This season it’s a very tight race and nearly every playoff spot is up for grabs. Let’s look at each division and conference to see how they may shape up for the post season.
First, let’s look at the teams that are out and are mathematically eliminated from making the playoffs. DadLegend – At 84 points, DadLegend are currently 20 points out of the last Wildcard spot. Given the amount of points needed to not only catchup but to take the lead and take control of the last Wildcard spot, I believe that DadLegend will not be making the playoffs this season. The Fearless Hearth – Currently The Fearless Hearth are 32 points out of the last Wildcard spot. Similar to DadLegend, with two weeks to go it’s just too many points to make up to realistically have a shot at the post season. Argent Terminus Legion – Being 19 points out of the last Wildcard spot, ATL won’t be making another run at the playoffs this season. We saw them make up a lot of points late last season in Ragnaros league, but given that there’s two weeks left in the season, I don’t think they will be able to make the comeback again. Black Ops Elves – The boys from the South Pole will be helping AlienSanta with toys earlier than they had hoped this season. Being 31 points down, with two weeks to go, Black Ops Elves won’t be making the post season. Eon – Being 28 points out of the last Wildcard spot in Rold, Eon won’t be making the playoffs this season. At this point in the season, it’s just too many points to overcome. Floop’s Gloop’s Bloops – Floop’s Gloop’s Bloops has had a season plagued with DQs which has put them 44 points out of the last Wildcard spot. This will be the first playoffs to not have them in it since they joined Sylvanas league. Now that we know who’s not going to make it, let’s look at those who have a shot to make the playoffs and contend for a title. Purple Division: Tan Pam’s Surf Slam: Points: 121 Still to face: Week 8 – Faithless Lumi, Week 9 – Argent Terminus Legion What they need to do: Tan Pam’s Surf Slam are in the driver’s seat for the Purple division. They are up 14 points over the next team and also 14 points up over the last Wildcard spot. Tan Pam’s needs to not have a bad week against the Faithless Lumi (a match that should be close) and then take care of business against ATL. If they do both of those then they will be the Purple division champion and easily secure their spot in the playoffs. AskHS: Points: 102 Still to face: Week 8 – Argent Terminus Legion, Week 9 – Tap Last What they need to do: AskHS are in the hunt for a playoff spot in their debut season. They are 5 points out of the last Wildcard spot. In Week 8 they face ATL and have an opportunity to really score a lot of points there. Then they need to follow that up with another solid week against Tap Last. If they do that they that should give them enough points to make a Wildcard spot. Hero Power Rangers: Points: 107 Still to face: Week 8 – Bomb Voyage, Week 9 – Faithless Lumi What they need to do: Hero Power Rangers are currently in the last Wildcard spot by 5 points over AskHS. They are behind Tan Pam’s Surf Slam by 14 points so catching them for the Purple division seems unlikely. However, that 5 point lead on AskHS isn’t a very large lead either as they have to take on the top two teams in Blue, Bomb Voyage and Faithless Lumi. They’ll need to win both of those matches to likely have a shot at keeping the Wildcard spot. AskHS has a much easier final two weeks so that doesn’t give HPR much breathing room with a 5 point lead. Blue Division: Faithless Lumi: Points: 118 Still to face: Week 8 – Tan Pam’s Surf Slam, Week 9 – Hero Power Rangers What they need to do: The Faithless Lumi are currently in the lead for the Blue division by 8 points and behind Tan Pam’s Surf Slam by 3 points for the top seed in Blurple. As fate would have it, Lumi and TPSS play in Week 8 in a match that may very well decide who goes into the playoffs as the #1 seed. The Lumi follow that up by taking on Hero Power Rangers in a match where they should be favored and could take a lot of points as they march into the playoffs. The Lumi are 8 points up on the next team in Blue and 11 points up on the team in the last Wildcard spot. Even should Lumi have 2 bad weeks, the lead they have should still be enough to make at least one of the Widcard spots to secure a spot for them in the playoffs. Bomb Voyage: Points: 110 Still to face: Week 8 – Hero Power Rangers, Week 9 – The Fearless Hearth What they need to do: Bomb Voyage has exploded onto the scene this season. They are currently in the first Wildcard spot. They are 8 points behind the Faithless Lumi and 3 points over the team in the last Wildcard spot, Hero Power Rangers. They face HPR in Week 8 in a match that could help widen the gap for a Wildcard spot and, if it’s a large enough win, could help them catch up to Faithless Lumi. They follow that up by taking on the Fearless Hearth in Week 9. They should be heavily favored against the Fearless Hearth so they again have an opportunity to put up a lot of points there. Bomb Voyage has a chance at the end of the season to take over the Blue division and march into the playoffs as the 2nd seed in Blurple. Tap Last: Points: 92 Still to face: Week 8 - DadLegend, Week 9 – AskHS What they need to do: Tap Last are currently 15 points out of the last Wildcard spot. Sometimes that would be too large of a margin to overcome. But Tap Last takes on DadLegend in Week 8. If they can win big there and put up a lot of points, then they could very well be playing AskHS for the last Wildcard spot in Week 9. The last Wildcard spot is there for the taking if Tap Last can capitalize on these next 2 weeks. Predictions: Purple Division Winner: Tan Pam’s Surf Slam Blue Division Winner: Faithless Lumi Wildcard: Bomb Voyage Wildcard: AskHS Now let’s look at Rold to see who may join those four teams in the playoffs. Rold as a conference is very interesting as we’ll see. Last season, all 4 playoff spots could have come from Gold as the 4th place in Gold had more than the Red division winner. However, since the division winner gets in automatically, the 4th place team in Gold missed the playoffs even with more points than the team who got in from Red. This season we have a very close race for the last 2 playoff spots and we could very well see both spots come from the Gold division again. Gold Division: Cult of Mecha’thun: Points: 123 Still to face: Week 8 – The Insomniacs, Week 9 – Smells Like Steam Spirit What they need to do: Cult of Mecha’thun are the top team in Rold. They are 11 points ahead of the next team in Gold and 20 points over the last Wildcard spot. Week 8 they face the Insomniacs in a match that could knock the Insomniacs out of the playoff race if they lose. Week 9 they could have a similar effect on Smells like Steam Spirit if they are able to have a big victory there. 65,340,285 Boars: Points: 112 Still to face: Week 8 – Smells Like Steam Spirit, Week 9 – Team Black Lotus What they need to do: The Boars may very well be the hottest team in Sylvanas league. They are on a huge win streak and appear to be getting better each week. They are 11 points behind Cult of Mecha’thun for the leader in Gold and then 9 points over the last Wildcard spot. In Week 8 they face another team with Playoff hopes in Smells like Steam Spirit. They follow that up by facing the current Red division leader, Team Black Lotus, in Week 9. Both matches are against teams that need to put up points against the Boars in order to secure a playoff spot. Competition will be tough, but the Boars will be a tough challenge in these last 2 weeks. Big Deck Bandits: Points: 93 Still to face: Week 8 – Ugly Mucklings, Week 9 – Floop’s Gloop’s Bloops What they need to do: Big Deck Bandits are currently 10 points outside of the last Wildcard spot. They face the Ugly Mucklings in Week 8. They need to have a solid win against the Mucklings in order to close the gap. Then Week 9 they take on Floop’s Gloop’s Bloops in a match where they have a chance to put up a lot of points and take over a Wildcard spot. Their destiny really hinges on being able to win in Week 8 and then have a dominant showing in Week 9. Xplosive Sheep: Points: 102 Still to face: Week 8 – Floop’s Gloop’s Bloops, Week 9 – The Insomniacs What they need to do: The Sheep missed the playoffs last season, despite having more points than the Red division leader. This season they may find themselves in a similar spot as they are currently 1 point behind the last Wildcard spot. Week 8 they play Floop’s Gloop’s Bloops and if they have a big showing there then that should help them take over a Wildcard spot. Week 9 they play the Insomniacs and could seal their spot in the playoffs with another win. Red Division: The Ugly Mucklings: Points: 103 Still to face: Week 8 – Big Deck Bandits, Week 9 – Eon What they need to do: The Ugly Mucklings are currently in the last Wildcard spot by 1 point over Xplosive Sheep and 3 points over Smells Like Steam Spirit. They are 1 point behind Team Black Lotus for the lead in the Red Division. They need two solid weeks to secure a spot in the playoffs and to also possibly win the Red division. Week 8 they play the Big Deck Bandits and a win there could be a big break to help get them into one of the Wildcard spots. They follow that up by playing Eon in Week 9. If they are able to have a very big win against Eon then they could very well go into the playoffs as the Red division winner. Team Black Lotus: Points: 104 Still to face: Week 8 - Eon, Week 9 – 65,340,285 Boars What they need to do: Team Black Lotus are the current Red division leaders by 1 point over the Ugly Mucklings who also happen to hold the last Wildcard spot. Team Black Lotus needs to have 2 good weeks in order to help keep their spot in the playoffs. Week 8 they play Eon and they really need to have a strong showing because in Week 9 they play the Boars. The match against the Boars may be very close so they can’t guarantee a lot of points there in a week when they may need to have a big win to stay in the playoffs. Smells Like Steam Spirit: Points: 100 Still to face: Week 8 – 65,340,285, Week 9 – Cult of Mecha’Thun What they need to do: Smells like Steam Spirit are currently 3 points out of the last Wildcard spot. They are close to the other teams in the hunt. The problem is that their schedule may not do them any favors as far as scoring a lot of points these next 2 weeks. Week 8 they play the Boars and Week 9 they play Cult of Mecha’thun. Both are matches that Steam Spirit could win but a win may not generate enough points to take over one of the Wildcard spots. If Steam Spirit makes it in, they will certainly have earned it. The Insomniacs: Points: 89 Still to face: Week 8 – Cult of Mecha’thun, Week 9 – Xplosive Sheep What they need to do: The Insomniacs are currently 14 points out of the last Wildcard spot. Now sometimes you can have 2 really big weeks and make up those points in order to take a spot in the playoffs. However, the Insomniacs face Cult of Mecha’thun in Week 8 and follow that up with another team trying to make the playoffs, Xplosive Sheep. If the Insomniacs want their season to continue after Week 9, they’ll have to win big against 2 tough teams. Similar to Steam Spirit, if they make it, they will have earned their spot. Predictions: Red Division Winner: The Ugly Mucklings Gold Division Winner: Cult of Mecha’thun Wildcard: 65,340,285 Boars Wildcard: Xplosive Sheep And that’s the road to the playoffs as they sit going into Week 8. Join me next week when we have a clearer view of who’s likely to get these 8 playoff spots and then as we also predict who makes it and ultimately who’s flag will fly for Sylvanas Season 7.
