Welcome to basedinc's blog debut with a breakdown of the upcoming Pro Series week of games!THL Pro Week 4 Predictions
As this is the first of hopefully many of these, let me start off with a little disclaimer. The views expressed are my own and based off of very little data and a lot of artistic liberty has been taken (me: “how to guess match scores in thl accurately” google: “0 results”). I do not mean to offend any with any of these predictions. I’m trying to conjure up some storylines based on standings, power rankings (thanks markshire!) and previous weeks’ results. If you think/know I’m wrong (and I’m going to be) use it as fuel for the fire that gets you hyped for your match this week. And most importantly please reach out to me on discord if you feel I’ve unfairly said anything or if you take any issue with this or any future article. Also I play for The Menagerie so when I say we’re going to take it 20-x every week don’t @ me (/s). And on to the matches this week. The Beard Boys vs. The Unknown This will be an exciting match up between our team atop the THL standings, The Beard Boys, with our top THL standing 2-1 team, The Unknown. The Beard Boy’s opening 3 matches haven’t seemed to test the great Bearded ones but here in week 4 I think that’s going to change. The Unknown is a team with a lot of talent and their only loss came in the first week on a 13-14 match up. These two teams are about to bring some straight fire, and any of us would be lucky to be a target dummy on the side of a gameboard getting to watch these matches. This week is going to likely be a tight one, but The Bearded Boys are currently one of the top teams in the format and coming in with a ton of momentum after a sweep last week and I’m going to give them the nod in a 14-12 victory. FTL vs. The Other Guys Our top team in the power rankings, FTL, is going up against The Other Guys. The Other Guys are certainly better than their record and points per week suggest. FTL is shaping up to be the team to beat with some quality wins over some very strong teams already in the season. The Other Guys are in a small slump after taking back-to-back losses, but to their credit these last two weeks have paired them with some very tough opponents and this week will be no different. I still think they’ve got more in the tank than the power rankings suggest and will definitely put up a great fight this week. All that being said it’s going to be tough to give the nod to anyone other than FTL until they give me a reason not to. I’m picking FTL 16-11. Taste The Rainbow vs. Defias Protherhood Taste The Rainbow is our lowest ranked undefeated team; they have been squeaking out the win each week by 1-3 points every week. This tells me that they know how to get the job done. They might not be doing it with as much flash as the other teams with the coveted 3-0 but don’t count them out of deserving a top 3 power ranking just yet. Defias has been struggling early on this season but not without reason. They’ve already taken on some top players in the space including FTL. I don’t think we have an accurate read on what this team is capable. I’m torn. I really want to see Taste The Rainbow turn it up a notch and lock up a big victory this week, and I really want Defias Protherhood to start on their underdog story turnaround and take a win off a previously undefeated team… But that’s not what my gut is telling me. This week Taste The Rainbow will step it up and take a 17-10 victory. Bad to the Bone vs. Tap Last This is a match I’m very excited about. Bad to the Bone is the highest power ranked 2-1 team battling it out with Tap Last a team that is quietly on the rise. They have been putting up better numbers each week. These teams are both going to be very hungry for the win and honestly I cannot pick a winner, but where is the fun in that. This is going to an all out brutal war between these two teams. Bad to the Bone is a team that puts up consistent numbers each week and is surely a threat to any team matching up with them, but I think they’re about to see Tap Last at a critical point in their season. If Tap Last spends another week improving (if they top 16 from last week against BttB boy howdy) it’s not going to show as a higher number on the score but a win in this match. And I’m going to give them the nod in this story of improvement. I’m taking the underdog’s side here and saying Tap Last in a squeaker at 14-13. The Menagerie vs. Top-Hatted Titans 20-0 next. Okay but in all seriousness this is where I’m concerned with writing the article. Last week we saw Top-Hatted Titans take a tumble in the power rankings after a big loss to The Beard Boys. But one week shouldn’t define this team’s power ranking that is certainly about to bounce back with force. The Menagerie is also looking to bounce back after a tight loss last week to a team that Top-Hatted Titans beat earlier this season. By the foolproof logic from my high school coach’s “goal math” we’re going to see Top-Hatted Titans take the win this week. But this is going to another tight match. Sorry my amalgam friends, I’m going with our enemies this week. Top-Hatted Titans topping the week 15-13. AEON vs. Pro-Pain Gang The last match-up (while scrolling down the current week) is our good friends here in AEON and Pro-Pain Gang. Both teams that I think are better than their record would suggest. AEON just came off a very close loss to FTL and that should scare anyone looking to make playoffs. Pro-Pain Gang also off to a slow start but some good showings in their losses so far. I predict their season is going to start picking up soon, but will this be the week they shake off that slow start and get their first win of the season? I’m sorry to say to PPG but I think this week will be AEON’s time to strut their stuff and really get the season rolling like they wanted to. I’m going to have to pick AEON here, but not without a fight from their opponents. AEON buckle in for a 14-11 victory. Every week I want to highlight three player match-ups that I would personally love to catch on stream. So let me introduce: Dream Stream Matches Eggowaffle (BttB) vs. Tyfoon (Tap Last) A very important match for both these teams where this could be a huge win for either team. A sub coming in for Tap Last at the 1 seed to take on an undefeated Eggowaffle. This is going to be a juicy one. HonestZaib (TBB) vs. Dusharmo (The Unknown) Going 3-0 is an impressive feat and (spoiler alert) this is the first of our 3-0 pairings on the list. Pride is also going to be on the line here and this is a match up of names I recognize even with my limited time here in THL. Rebobson (FTL) vs. TonyMontana (The Other Guys) The second of our 3-0 pairings are between names I don’t recognize (aside from Rebobson the terror of Coin Concede’s series). Sorry to both of you in that regard, but huge props to both of you getting to that sweet 3-0 and I’m excited to find out who continues to that 4-0. Closing Words I hope that this comes across as I intend it. Just a fun theatrical guess at who will win what with no real base (predicting point totals is uh complete bullshit). This is Hearthstone just pray to Yogg if you think you’re on the ropes and anything can happen. Please share any feedback/criticism you have for the articles with me directly on discord. I think I may just do point differential in matches instead of actual scores starting next week (seems less fun though). Good luck in all your matches and ladder this week. This is a fantastic community and I got mad love and respect for all of you. -basedinc
