Captain Interviews - debs

diamond has a chat this week with thl's newest captain: debs of insert good name.

Hello THL! Asking questions for shows wasn’t enough for me, so I decided to revive the captain interview series. Today, I am interviewing the captain of Insert Good Name aka IGN, Debs. (not a Dabs alt, definitely not).

Diamond: How did you find out about THL?

Debs: My good friend @DabsHS rounded up me and another IRL friend to create Mrgl Mrgl last season in Legacy. We lucked out that superstars such as ZoomerKick & Buse man were available to complete our roster.

Diamond: As a newer captain, how would you say the experience has been?

Debs: The experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I only play a small role in that though. You need teammates who care enough to prepare, talk strategies, co-op, and everything else that it takes to be a successful team. Seeing that I was unable to do any background checks on my players, I am lucky that Wild9, Urmumked, and Kingpixl have all been very active in our discord.  Also shouts to my Mrgl Sqwad for always bouncing ideas around and still chatting every day even though we disbanded. 

Diamond: What is the story behind the D_bs crew?

Debs:  It was the spring of ‘16. All of the boys had just finished their freshman year of college. We had a lot of downtime together which was mostly spent lanning this sick new team-based FPS called Overwatch. We have an IRL friend whose tag was already Dubs. It’s a play on words on his real name. @DabsHS had already named himself Dabs unrelated to Dubs’s tag. Then it dawned on the rest of us as we were playing OW. What if he had a full squad of D (insert vowel here)bs? Thus we formed the ultimate squad that struck fear into our opposition on the load screen. Debs, Dibs, Dobs, Dabs, Dubs, and Dybs. 
(RIP Dybs, we don’t talk to him anymore.) 

Diamond: What was it like making the team in one hour, can you describe your thought process?

Debs: After Mrgl Mrgl was told that they were too talented and had to disband or risk everyone else quitting, I had spent two or so weeks pinging the free agents channel on THL to no avail. There were a hefty amount of players looking for a team, so I just threw it out there. “Seems like there are enough players for another team in legacy or hero”. Within moments I receive a PM from the ultimate Dad legend Donde. “If you can put a team together by tomorrow you can play in hero.” It was off to the races for me. PMing every neglected, forgotten, and written off player that THL had to offer. Thus Insert Good Name was formed. If you want something bad enough you just have to make it happen. I know that I want to beat Gkick in the playoffs so naturally, I needed a team to do this. I can guarantee you that he will fall into the 4 seed by the time playoffs roll around. The kid is in 4 series and is a whittle baby college freshy. Lot on his plate, I’d make quick work of him. 

Diamond: Who do you think your biggest competition is this season?

Debs: A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a sheep.

Diamond: What are your expectations of your team for the remainder of the season?

Debs:  Off to a rough start surely. 0-2 across the board never feels good. However, given the circumstances in which our team was formed, and the fact that we faced off against two of the strongest teams in our division, I have high hopes for the remainder of our season. While our team may not carry the most skill or experience, Hearthstone is a game of RNG and no skill. The cards will fall into our favour eventually and we will look to make a push for the playoffs. On a serious note, Wild9, Urmumked, and Kingofpxl have all been putting in the work to better their lineups, learn the matchups, and help each other find success despite the variations in time zones. 

Diamond: What has the difference between being a captain and a player be?

Debs: Not much of a difference other than posting our matchups and making sure everyone has submitted their lineups. I do make sure to give everyone plenty of energy.

Diamond: How has your THL experience been so far? 

Debs:  It’s been very positive, and I haven’t gotten banned yet so we’ll see how far we can push that envelope.
