With THL entering the off-season, it’s time to discuss draft picks. No, THL has not suddenly adopted an NFL-style player management system; this is for the THL Draft Series tournament! 12 captains have assembled and are ready to recruit a team of champions, free of any PR restrictions. Many of the THL’s superstar players stand ready for the draft, but questions remain. Who will be selected as the number 1 draft pick? Who will drop and be the steal of the draft? Will captains aim to maximize team chemistry, or will they purely go for the best remaining players? Bonemasher, our resident 4 series THL captain, is here to help sift through and decipher the potential draft picks. After looking back at past seasons, reviewing player PR, and taking into account Hearthstone-related Twitter posts, the following elite players stand out as the potential top draft pick:
Superchicken - Our first candidate has already notched Pro and Hero series championships in Stormwind and is looking to make it a triple with a win in the THL Draft Series. Someone with such pedigree this season is bound to get attention. Aviously - Avi is a Legacy Hall of Famer and has the highest PR rating of available players. He also boasts a lifetime win rate of more than 60% across Pro, Hero and Legacy. Whoever picks him up is getting a proven winner. Liquidox - Ox was in the first class for the Pro Series Hall of Fame. He went undefeated in Barrens but didn’t have the best season in Stormwind. Form is temporary though; class is permanent. basedinc - based went 9-4 in Hero last season, leading her team BANDS to a semi-final appearance. She’s been widely considered one of the best number one seeds in THL for multiple seasons now. AlwaysLethal - AlwaysLethal led Golden Wisps of THL’s Legacy format to the top of the regular season standings with an impressive 8-2 record. This power player is in form this season and shouldn’t be underestimated. RonMexico - Don’t let this Legacy 3 seed fool you. His PR might be one of the biggest steals in the draft. Ron boasted an 8-4 record in the Hero Series and a 7-1 record in Pro last season. He’s also a Legacy Hall of Famer and has the best hair in all of THL. These aren’t the only players with a strong pedigree. There are many more high PR players in contention for selection in the first round too, if not the top pick itself. Let’s break down a few players who could be worth a great deal to their teams if chosen at their respective levels. 550 PR - Wild9, TStew, MrPython, Dabs, Mechnificant, BZRK, D0nkey, Saber Captains can’t go wrong with a 550 PR player. Some Hero and Legacy teams have up to 3 of them! Any of these players can get snapped up in the first round, and all are proven competitors with strong THL and ladder track records 450+ PR - Jammies, Mick, Nice Jewish Owl, Chewie, RiceBowl, CmaccompH, Caleb, vinospumoni, DoctorBOMD Some of these players are just as good as the 550 PR players above but have the added benefit of falling to a lower seed on most teams. I wouldn’t be surprised to see many of these players picked ahead of their 550 PR counterparts as captains try to strategize their seeding and take advantage of PR differences among their picks. After all the high PR juggernauts are picked, captains are left looking for hidden gems at lower PR tiers. THL series victories have historically been built on hidden gems, the low-PR players straight out of TESPA who help lead their teams to glory. Want to know who some of those hidden gems might be? We’re happy to speculate! Cyansheepies - I’m not sure how he comes in at 344.83 PR. He can hold his own against any player in Pro. Expect him to be snapped up shortly after the top players are taken. Dragonrider - With experience casting Blizzard tournaments, can Dragonrider’s exposure to high level play raise her own game to the next level? After checking out some of her streams and her successes on ladder, I can say with confidence: yes it has! Mojopowell - The best 5 seed in legacy should not be in the 5 seed, and won’t be for much longer if he keeps this level of play up. 262.71 PR is nowhere near his level of play. If I had to pick a sleeper, here it is. Finally, we have players from our very own THL Content - Geranium Battle, Dusharmo, JRJuggerlaw, Donde, Diamond, and Doctorfeesh. Each of these players talks a lot about Hearthstone play at a top-level, but can they back that talk up? More importantly, will Donde find a way to rig PAR for this event too? Only time will tell. How will it all go down? Find out tonight. This THL draft is one of the most exciting things to come to our off-season, and is a must-watch. Join Marty B, Dusharmo, and the rest of the captains at 8PM Eastern tonight to watch the draft streamed live at http://twitch.tv/teamhearthleague!
