10 Questions with Jerry DamageTo kick off our new seasons, Jerry sits down with Chiggmo! Welcome to 10 Questions with Jerry Damage. This is a weekly player interview to get to know some of the players and personalities around the league better than just someone who’s name we’ve seen on the website. For this first interview, we start off with longtime THL veteran, Chiggmo. 1. Standard opening question: Where are you from originally? And where are you at now? Chiggmo: Bit of a tricky answer. The short answer is I was born in Mobile, Alabama. The long answer? My family is all from Nova Scotia, Canada. My father worked in Aviation and was sent down to work on a project for a new jet engine being developed while my mother was pregnant with me, where I was later born and lived for 6 years. Currently, I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and likely will to some degree for the rest of my life. 2. Other than Hearthstone, what do you usually do to have some fun or relax? Chiggmo: Well as far as video games are concerned I play a lot of stuff, I have played League of Legends since it's creation, and, for a point of my life, I played it very competitively. I casually play Fortnite, despite being terrible, it's fun. X-com is an all-time favorite as well. I'll cut it there for specifics other than I have a whole array of Steam games, Xbox games, Switch games. You name it. Outside of video games my favorite thing to probably do is go-karting. My childhood dream was to be some form of professional race car driver (if I had to choose, Formula-1 or some kind of Motorcycle) and although they are nowhere near that power, they still give that rush. We have a circuit with weekly races that I also take part in (this is our 9th season, I've won it 3 times) Other than that, I'm a pretty big sports fan which I play a lot and watch a lot. I also love my dogs and spend a lot of time with them to unwind (Husky, Shih-tzu, English Mastiff, and a Bernese) 3. What’s your history with CCGs? Is HS your first? Chiggmo: I, like every kid my age when it was released absolutely loved Pokemon and the TCG that came with it. I had my parents buying the crap out of those packs for me while I worked away doing chores all the time so they would keep buying them. I still have every card and will cherish them forever, otherwise my inner nerd starts a war. Beyond that I dabbled in Magic, never played it big time, never owned much in terms of cards and usually used friends. But the little bit I played I loved, just at the time it felt like way too much to keep up with. 4. How long have you been playing Hearthstone? Chiggmo: I've played it since beta, but originally was an arena player other than getting the rank 20 card backs (I have them all) I never got into ladder until shortly before I joined THL (a little before WOTOG). Honestly though I probably spend more time spectating other people while I work and do things than actually playing the game. No stress when its not me losing right? 5. You’ve been in the league since THL Season 4. What’s kept you in the league for so long? Chiggmo: I've asked myself this question two different times over the last few seasons wondering if "it was my time to go" and "why am I here"? Both times I nearly left. Once I technically did and got dragged back in despite making it clear I had no intention of trying to win or put in any effort (That turned into a lie, my competitive drive won't allow any of that). Originally, it was the few friends I made in THL that I wanted to stick around and interact with (which I probably would have lost contact with otherwise). Now I would say its strictly being a captain. If I didn't end up as a captain 2 seasons ago and spear heading MSI, I'd be gone from the league right now because I had 0 desire to play, and was just burned out of HS and the league overall but sitting back as a captain and not having the stress of worrying about playing and winning, while still being able to enjoy it all with your players is a lot of fun. The upcoming pro-league looks exciting as well, hoping to get a captain spot for that. 6. How are you liking the Boomsday meta so far? Chiggmo: Honestly I love it far more than a lot of metas. Last meta and this meta have been really really fun simply due to variation. There's a lot of things that can be played and can win at a decent rate. You have combo decks, control decks, midrange, aggro that can all work. Really what more can you ask for? Sure Druid can be toned down and Shudderwock is a pain the ass, but if its not them something else will be. That said, keep quest Rogue away already before it needs to be deleted, I don't think a 3rd nerf is going to cut it if we get to that point. 7. You’ve played in Ragnaros, Sylvanas, and Mysterious Challenger. Which league would you say you prefer and why? Chiggmo: Technically I've never played at all in Sylv, just a captain. I made the team to meme with spell hunter and forgot to give Aviously a spot, so I gave him mine and have never played at all on that team or any other. If I have to pick one it's probably Rag overall. I can play solo leagues and tourneys anytime through Battlefy and such so despite MCL being a lot of fun, the team appeal wins over for me every time if I have to pick a league. The format for MCL I enjoy way more with the open decklists and submitted by Sunday. All this in mind, if the new Pro League coming up is as advertised and lives up to the hype coming with it and the format, I feel that will take that spot as favorite in the end if it pans out. 8. If you could take one card from Wild and put it back into Standard, what would you pick and why? Chiggmo: Yogg! Who doesn't love the RNG fest? Really though my love for warrior makes me want to say something like old C'thun, N'zoth or maybe Justicar as they were staples in some of my favorite decks ever. But I'll pick Medivh. I actually really liked this card, and was one of the only reasons I had ever played the mage class at all outside of arena (I had 12 ranked wins with mage before Medivh and 250 after) Honorable mention for Kazakas. I loved those potions so much. 9. Why is Maple Syrup, Inc. the best thing to come out of Canada since Wayne Gretzky? Chiggmo: Woah woah woah, where do you come off saying anything is better than WAYNE GRETZKY!? THE GREAT ONE!!! Well let me tell you why we are! First off, we didn't get sold (traded) off to some American franchise, we'll stick with our Canadian roots till death! Despite some American imports. Let's be real while I'm at it, if it weren't for maple syrup, maple bacon wouldn't exist! And who wants a world like that, seriously. To put it in perspective. I can live my life knowing there wasn't an all time great Canadian hockey player. There's no way in hell I want to live without maple syrup, specifically maple bacon. Seriously, you don't compete with Gretzky, this question is blasphemy and I'm offended you asked it. 10. If you could pick one card to represent you as a player, what would you pick and why? Chiggmo: Wild card - Yogg, Standard - Whizbang. I pick both for the same reason which is. As I am a person who is bi-polar, I feel either of these cards suits perfect, as you never have any clue what you're going to get from me on any occasion and instance, and it changes from a case to case basis. Every interaction you never quite know whats coming, and you never quite know how it's going to turn out. It's always a new adventure, sometimes you hate it and want it dead, sometimes you praise it and love it for what it did (ya ok that part is probably a stretch for me, I know.) That’s it for this week. Thank you Chiggmo for letting me interview and look forward to another player interview next week.
