10 Questions with Jerry Damage!

Jerry sits down with Maple Syrup Inc's superstar 5 seed Saku!

Welcome to 10 Questions with Jerry Damage.  This is a weekly player interview to get to know some of the players and personalities around the league better than just someone who’s name we’ve seen on the website.  For this first interview, we start off with the star 5 seed of Maple Syrup Inc, Saku.

   1. Standard opening question here: Where are you from originally? And where are you at now? 
Saku:  Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Still here now at 47yrs old. Love the climate here (winters suck but its Canada right?!). No, I have zero experience with igloo building. :(
 
  2. Other than playing Hearthstone, what do you usually do to have some fun or relax? 
Saku:  Fun times for me? Operating my side business (paintball store) and playing in casual & competitive paintball events in the summer. There is nothing better than the adrenaline rush you get for being hunted or being the hunter and the first paintball splatter to the goggles. Oh and yes spending quality time with my wife and kids. LOL
 
    3. What’s your history with CCGs? Is HS your first?
Saku:  I have zero experience with CCGs. I wish I did as I have seen where that experience really transfers to Hearthstone. Hearthstone is my first CCG type game.
 
    4. How long have you been playing Hearthstone?
Saku:  I downloaded Hearthstone on my iPad and played super casually since Blackrock Mountain expansion. Been a fan ever since.
  
   5. You’ve been around the league since SHL Season 4, what first brought you to THL/SHL?
Saku:  Playing in a local Hearthstone tournament (Frags for Canceer 12) for the first time in Nov 2016, became good pals with Adam “Chiggmo” Baker. He pointed me to this league in Jan 2017 during a small HS local tournament. He suggested I jump on FB/Discord and provide my info (52dd/51/43 dad bod in full effect). I wanted to get better and understand the game more. I still have lots to learn. I still do not put in the hours like some people can. So my 100PR is exactly where it should be.  I want to thank Team Next Level (Mozzy & Jammie) for giving me a chance to play in the Sylv League. I’ve learned a lot from that team over the past few seasons. Mad respect!!
 
    6. What’s kept you with THL for so long?
Saku:  Over the past few season … my teammates, the dialog with decklists, meme lists (Sage & HocTennkeynisBoyz) and the interesting conversations on Discord that happen. The articles on the website are very entertaining. The streams are getting better and better (big thanks to ESADnote/Stephaniee/ForceOfWill).
 
   7. This is your 3rd season in Sylv and second in Ragnaros. Which format do you prefer?
Saku:   I like both really because they are so different in strategy.
 
   8. You’ve been called the nicest player in THL, why are you so nice?
Saku:  Because I am Canadian? “So sorry, eh!” To be honest, I don’t think I am the nicest guy. There are plenty of personalities in the league who are equally as nice if not better.
 
   9. What are your goals for the future in Hearthstone and THL?
Saku:  I tend to donate my money to Blizzard gods for Hearthstone expansions and card packs for as long as they have it active. The game is infuriatingly fun to play. As for THL, I intend on competing in it every season until I cannot play HS anymore.
 
  10. If you could pick 1 card from Hearthstone to represent you as a player, what would you pick and why?\ Saku:  So many cards … Murloc Tinyfin is an accurate one. I am just annoying enough to get in the way to cause some damage and I don’t cost too much (ie 100PR)!!
