Today is our first Ragnaros reveal: The Cabal captained and written by JerryDamage! Welcome to the first pre-season hype article for Ragnaros Season 10. The rest of the articles will be in an interview format. But for this first article I’m going to get us started by revealing my team. So I was in the league previously for Ragnaros Seasons 2-5 and Sylvanas Seasons 1 and 2. I took some time away from the league and then at the beginning of last season I decided to come back and then found a spot on Maple Syrup Inc. when they needed a replacement for their 4 seed. During the course of the season I decided I’d like to become a captain again and at the end of the season I would apply for captainship. When I came back to the league I wanted to have fun, but I also wanted to get a championship. I got close in Season 5 before my team Parallax lost a close series to HSA in the semi-finals. So as I set out to start to form this team, I knew I wanted to build a team that could compete and have a chance at making it to the Finals and taking it all home. With that being the goal, where do you start? You start by recruiting the Michael Jordan of THL. The first person I messaged was none-other than two time Champion, former MVP, and THL Hall of Famer, Slimsch. Slimsch had taken some time off and after thinking about it decided he wanted to play. With Slimsch on board I had my 1 seed and needed to go about building the rest of the roster. When I asked Slimsch why he joined the team, he said, “I joined because I thought it was cool to see Jerry coming back in the mix and looking to assemble a team with various people from the community I thought highly of. At the time I wasn't even decided on what my plans were going to be in returning to Ragnaros after a season off. It seemed like a good opportunity to climb aboard a team being built that I had some voice in rather than jumping into the Free Agent pool.” When I first joined the league back in Season 2, I became friends with TheTownDrunk. We were on the same team and he was a great teammate and since I came back to the league I’d seen where he had become a rock star 5 seed and had been having a lot of success. I reached out to him to see if he was interested and he liked the idea of being on a team together again. When I asked TheTownDrunk why he joined the team, he said, “Because you hit me up 2 months ago, and I thought it was a fantastic idea since we haven’t been on a team together since S2. And you seem to not mind if I play my matches while under the influence.” So now I needed to find the rest of the roster. I looked over the Free Agent Mega Thread on Facebook and kept playing with different lineups. I kept going over by a few points when I had myself as the 4 seed. Then I had the idea that what if I took the season off for Ragnaros and then the numbers started to work out. The PR rework for this season had some great values of newer players and I knew if I could find a great 4 seed that we’d have more than enough space to allow for a good 2 and 3 seed. I had in mind the ideal 4 seed and I reached out to him with the team I had so far and the vision I had for how it’d end up. After thinking about it, Jaxox decided to join the team. Jaxox had his best season in THL this past season and the combination of Jaxox and TheTownDrunk gives us a great 4/5 seed combo that can really put up some points. When I asked Jaxox why he joined the team, he said, “I was not going to play this season unless I found another team like the Whims. I am in my 13th season with no championship. Having a 1 seed that cared last season made all the difference in my play, and I was not going to join a team without Brewski, or someone with a similar attitude. I liked the lineup presented to me, and when I heard Slimsch was confirmed, I knew I had my 1 seed coach to help me improve further. I never thought I could be on a team with Donnie, cause we are both sought after 5 seeds, but the way Jerry built the team made that possible. "Would you like to play with Brasky, Slimsch, and Donnie?" Who says no to that? iCon was a pleasant addition after I joined.” I then had plenty of cap room and wanted to go out and see who was available. I once again played with some numbers and saw a guy I’d love to add. It would move him up to the 2 seed but would give us more than enough space for a solid 3 seed. I talked to Brasky and after thinking about it he also decided to join. When I asked Brasky why he joined the team, he said “When the off-season approached, I set out to join a team with the same dynamics of my past two squads: Team Swagoi and Vote of No Confidence. Those teams were successful for many reasons including (but not limited to): - Fantastic team communication - Robust analysis and discussion of class/archetype/card choices - A desire to win - A great sense of humor - All-around great personalities; people I would want to be around in real-life not just Hearthstone When JerryDamage told me about the squad he was putting together, it hit on all that criteria and then some. I am super excited to start Season 10 with this amazing group of new-comers, memers, all-stars, and hall-of-famers in the hopes of putting together a championship campaign.” With a team full of hall of famers and all-stars, I just needed the last piece of the puzzle. We looked at who was available and with the PR rework we knew that some people who would have been 400+PR players were now 375 or so. After looking over everyone I reached out to iCon. iCon is new to the league but is a great player and someone that I thought would fit into the team very well. When I asked iCon why he joined the team, he said, “I joined because everyone on the team is a veteran and has had great success in Rag, and an environment like that would be great for me for my first season of Rag. The entire roster is all people I have a ton of respect for, and having a coach in Brewski and a dedicated captain in Jerry is a definite advantage as well.” Now we had our team. But something was missing. Once Slimsch joined I had originally thought about trying to get him together with another superstar player. What if I had Slimsch AND Brewski playing as arguably the best 1 and 2 seed combination in league history? It’s like Michael Jordan and Lebron James playing together. You can debate who’s who in that scenario. I talked some with Brewski but he ultimately decided to take a season off. However, he did agree to come in and hang out and coach us up. The final addition to the team was Coach Brewski. Ladies and gentlemen of the league, I’m proud to announce the formation of The Cabal. Slimsch Brasky iCon Jaxox TheTownDrunk Coach Brewski Captain JerryDamage Surrender Your Will to the Cabal!
